announcing a coach without a signed contract, or within a very short time after the public announcement. I think I've read somewhere that Kentuckys BB coach is coaching without a contract, but it's almost unheard of in todays "cesspool" of college athletics, as Sipple calls it.
Quote
You also get the distinct feeling Osborne is a little turned off by the itinerant ways of coaches such as Petrino.
“He did not finish the season in Atlanta, and maybe he had his reasons,†Osborne said of Petrino suddenly leaving the NFL Falcons last week to take over as Arkansas’ head coach.
“It just seems like when you sign on to do a job, it ought to be a two-way street,†Osborne said. “People who sign on should try to see it through.“
Quote
When Pelini, 40, says Nebraska represents his “dream job,†you believe him. You believe he’ll be here for the long haul.
Pelini has yet to sign his contract, but he says it’s simply a matter of finding time to dot I’s and cross T’s. Again, you believe him. Some other head coaches, well, not so much.
“It’s a different world right now,†Osborne said of the college game. “But I will say Bo has been a pleasure to work with. I haven’t had to deal with an agent. Bo’s a man of his word, and I think we trust each other. Some of these guys have agents, and it makes the whole thing sometimes very difficult.
“We certainly could’ve dealt with agents (in the hiring process),†Osborne said

Many disagree with this approach, but I admire it. We're headed in the right direction, and doing it the right way, IMO. They'll get the contract done when they have a chance - they've already shaken hands on the substance.
So much to be thankful for this Christmas season.

Remember the signed/unsigned/faxed/unfaxed contract fiasco with Houston a couple years ago? Ugh.
I'll take the TO way over the SP way any day!

It can/will be argued that we can/will take a short term hit in recruiting but long term it will pay tremendous dividends for the program - knowing and trusting they are dealing with straight shooters.

Many coaches now have agents? Gee, when did that start Dr. Tom?

INTEGRITY is all you need to say about Bo and TO. Their integrity as men allows them to do this. Something very rare today in sports.
They have put their priorities in other things than monetary priorities. How rare is this and how lucky are we to have them at the helm.
I have been involved in the thoroughbred racing industry working on the back stretch for years. Rarely would you see a jock or his agent let him mount a horse with out a contract signed or agreement. The one jock who did for the love of racing was Pat Day. He trusted the word of the owner or trainer.
Oh btw Pat retired as one of the greatest jocks of all time. His integrity is what defined Pat not his wins. His wins always came with his integrity he would say.

It not real uncommon to not have a signed contract these days. Michigan's new coach Rodriguez does not have one yet. They haven't even settled his 4 million buyout issue with WVU.

can you sign a coaching contract with one team and then coach another team in the national championship game?
i don't know the ncaa rules but maybe that is why his contract is not yet finalized
dr. tom can't recruit with bo if he has named a rb coach right
it is all a game of chess with ncaa rules and regulations
the huskers will play with respect to husker nation as long as bo is around
the more we get hate from espn and the like, the more scared everyone is getting
most of the nation hates nebraska football because we were so damn good
bring on the hate
next year we are going to punch teams in the mouth and bring back the physical aspect to our game
my friends were watching a 95 game the other day and our defence looked like they wanted to eat the heads of our opponents
if we ran up the gut, we told the other team the play at the line of scrimage and challanged them to stop it
by half time the other teams were exausted and we wanted more blood
i can't wait to see that again

Do you just like to throw crap into nearly every thread?
The only correlation between the two events is that both are more similar then they are different. That is, Bo having an unsigned contract is much more like Huston not returning a signed contract, then the two situations are different.

I agree that no contract and lettting coach another team is formula for trouble. Whats to stop LSu from stepping up and offering Pelini a shot at another championship why not stay? A man can not have two masters and clearly Pelini has two presently.
