Technology has changed the way we view the Huskers....

I'm 42 years of age now. Never really saw much of Devaney's time as a head coach, but seen most of Tom Osborne's reign and the thereafter. On some level I long for the old days when the only way you recieved your information was thru radio or TV and they said what they had to say. In those days, they told you what you needed to know and you hung on every thread. The coaches could get their wits about them and tell you what they felt you needed to know.
Nowadays, you have the internet and cell phones with text messaging. Everyone is just itching to get the "inside scoop" and the "dirt". Everyone is looking for their "15 minutes of fame" which in this day and age has evolved to their "15 seconds of fame". Whatever happened to patience? Did that go by the wayside long before Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky?
I guess I just feel that everyone is searching for the spotlight and to see their name in lights. Would I like that? Certainly, but under the right circumstances. I've grown to have the feeling that everyone wants to have be known for something regardless if it is before the fact or not. It goes back to the "I TOLD YOU SO!!" mentality. I appreciate the news I hear but at what cost? To hear it a week or a month before everyone else to win a bet? That is not me. I want to hear it from the horse's mouth. Mr. Ed was awesome.
I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe I'm too old for this generation of technology. The "inside" scoop may not be as important as it used to be and speculation is on par to daydreaming. As far as the recruiting and whatever Bo Pelini brings I will see it in the next coming season. What transpires regardless of how big of a Husker fan I am, I will see the product. Protesting on message boards and the like really has not much influence upon the outcome, its what the people in charge at the University says that makes or breaks what happens. In the end I guess everyone would like to feel, regardless of the technology they use to get the "inside scoop" for their own "15 seconds of fame" , that they altered the course of Husker football for the better or worse.

Technology has been with us since the beginning of time. Information flow has always been critical to the advancement of mankind. Yes, some people miss use information sometimes, but overall Americans prefer more information than less.

I agree, I too am WAY behind the "technology" curve; hell, I have to wait until my son takes leave from the Army or until my daughter comes home to show me how to use the updates for the computer. But I too long for the "old" days when you read the sports pages and hoped there would be quotes after the games to gain a little insight into the coaches/players thoughts. As my Old Man used to say- "Knowledge is a powerful thing, but it can also be dangerous" IMO, we are walking that fine line.

Speak for yourself. We're the exact same age and I love all this new tech. It keeps us informed, especially for someone like me that just doesn't have the time to wait around for the news or some radio show.

Technology is not to blame, just as guns are not to blame for murder. In the "old days" you declared an opinion about something and you were held personally accountable for your words. The message boards today are like reading the anonymous ramblings in a bathroom stall at a dark, smoky bowling alley. Problem is, there's no cleaning crew that comes in and cleans up the graffiti online. Every piece of mind turd dumped online is regarded as "just a differing opinion" that, if edited, would cause the very foundations of our nation to crumble. Yet another example, IMHO, of the increased dumbing down of the last few generations who actually believe the First Amendment gives them a right to say anything, anywhere, anytime.

Personally I love it. I don't get many games on TV over here and of course there are no radio stations that will broadcast them so I have to depend on the internet to even listen to the game. Usually on gamedays when I can't catch a game on TV I am sitting in front of my computer with the radio broadcast up and usually I will watch some type of game tracker type thing that has a play by play and live game stats. Usually if there is a live chat posted here I will even jump in there. Heck a lot of times with the way that TV broadcasts go I almost prefer listening to the radio broadcasts over watching the games. To be honest without the internet I would not ever get any info on NU out here. I rarely ever get to hear anything about any team other that tOSU. I would be completely in the dark.

The irony of this observation, posted one an on-line message board which frequenltly has the "inside scoop," and includes "just the author's differing opinion" is duly noted.

That's one way of looking at it. Another is that on this board we got some pretty accurate info on the coaching change well before it happened.

Bob and Tom could never have survived the level of scrutiny that goes on here. Opinion becomes fact after 4 or 5 posts to a thread.
