There's absolutely zero reason to believe that recruiting for that offense is more difficult than recruiting for a "pro style" or "modern" offense.
If anything, it's easier because you don't have to go after "special" WRs, so you free up schollies to take more shots at other positions. Hell, you don't even really need a "special" QB. Lord (I love the guy and he was a tremendous competitor and deserve A LOT of credit for what he did at NU) was not a great QB. He was an athlete though, and he finished his career 17-10. Not great, but servicable; especially since he won 10 as a senior.
Ganz would have been good in that offense. It was just more adaptable to the talent you actually had on hand. It was also easier to recruit effective offensive linemen to.
i do so enjoy people say "absolutely zero reason" as if they are the end all authority ...
hmm ... let's see if i can scrape just one with my meager IQ ....
oh yeah, maybe some HS kids who want to go to the NFL to play a position like QB won't want to play for an option team where they get zero prep ...
how many former nebraska QBs playing QB in the NFL again?
is that a reason?
would that bump it over zero?

No, you do need a special quarterback to make that offense hum. Tommie Frazier, Turner Gill, and even Scott Frost were exceptional athletes. Jamal Lord is probably not a good reference point because his tenure as NU's quarterback was not particularly distinguished, nor did it bring NU any titles, big 12, mnc or otherwise.

I had no idea TO was that pissed after the georgia tech game. I mean, I was, but who cares what I thought. Very surprising indeed. I think I'm starting to see the transition pattern starting a few years before the real results showed up.
Charlie McBride once spoke at a company function and said TO looked at everything and everyone (himself included) after the Georgia Tech game and told the troops "We are going to start respecting and loving each other they way we want to be respected and loved. Coaches, players, staff, fans, everyone. We will be a team."
It made quite an impression on everyone at the meeting. Charlie also said "Sometimes you just have to grab them big ol defensive linemen and tell'm ya love um."

Just curious ... and with NO agenda ... but was the Unity Council in place when Nebraska was getting it's "thugs" rap? If so, what did they do?

yes it was ....
for the peters, i don't know honestly ...
for LP, i think TO pretty much took that one on himself ...
but i don't know all the things that went on behind the scenes ...
as for the statutory case (i won't use a name since he was acquitted), i think they played a role ...

No it wouldn't, because the lack of QBs in the NFL (though we've had a couple play DB) further illustrates that we don't need the special talent of a pro style QB (a rare commodity) to be successful at the position. THere are dozens of athletes each year capable of performing at higher level in the old offense compared to the small number of QBs with skills suited to excel in the "pro style" O's.
