Poor play from QB

Sorry to say but if you think this is an aberration, think again. We all called it up to this point. The stare downs of WRs finally caught up to Lee. Not only that but his will to want to make big plays doesn't seem to be there. If we are going to run an offense that allows for the QB to run, we need a QB that is NOT AFRAID to give up his body. That last QB draw effort was terrible. You get as many yards straight ahead as possible. Not go side ways down the line of scrimmage. At least get us in a position where the coaches have to make a tough decision to go for it on 4th. It is crunch time, you must sell out fully to get first downs. PERIOD.
I'm so pissed right now on how we lost this game. There is still a ways to go with this team's psychie. They simply don't believe they can win against other elite teams. Offense was playing not to lose that last drive. RB tip toed, QB couldn't throw the ball into the ocean that last drive.
Sorry for this rant but this one is hard to swallow. I can't just say good game and let this one go. WE GAVE THIS ONE AWAY.

I'm thinking he played poorly because it was his first game on the road in a hostile environment. I'm betting this is by far his worst effort of the season. Guess who also played poorly in one of his first road games? Sam Bradford.

It can happen to anyone. I'm not bailin on Zac yet.

Exactly. His 3rd start of his career and people are blaming him for this loss? No way. He played as well as can be expected considering the circumstances.

There is no other words to describe Lee's performance today. It was horrible. I really felt very good about him going into this one. In fact, if someone would have told me our defense would hold Virginiat Tech to less than 20 yards through 28 minutes of the second half, I would have said we win this one going away. His play wasn't good from start to finish and why he threw that pass late in the game to the outside of the receiver is beyond comprehension. He could have thrown a floater to the inside and the receiver could have tip-toed backwards into the end zone. There wasn't a defender within 20 yards of the guy. I probably could have completed that one for six.

Let me ask you this? You are a first year starting QB in the 3rd start of your career, in a hostile environment, going against a vertywell coached and extremely fast defense that's been putting pressure on you all day, are you going to play lights out? Doubtful Give VT's defense some respect. I warned everyone the play great D and ST's. That's what won the game for them.

I truly wonder if he got nicked. He seemed to be finding a rhythm just before halftime, then fell apart in the third quarter.
Weird.

It appeared to me VT adjusted well after halftime.

Say what, Husker Mike? What won the game for Virginia Tech had little to do with their defense. Yes, their defense kept them in the game, but what won the game for them was poor time out management and horrible play calling down the stretch by the offensive staff.

No actually it had lots to do with why they won. They clamped down in the redzone like all good defenses do. Besises I was responding to you trying to pin this loss on Lee when it wasn't his fault. Now you are saying it's the coaches? Which is it? Had our ST's on the opening KO not allow an 82 yard return, I doubt VT gets any type of a score. We win period.

Everyone contributed to our loss as Bo said. Zac lee did do especially awful today, but im guessing this will be an anomaly in the long run of things

I thought he was maybe hurt, or he was sick or something, I mean he is probably as accurate a thrower as we have had here and he was really off. Definately not the same guy today as the first 2 games. I dont believe that VT was all that tough on defense as we were pretty bad in our execution. That game shouldnt have been close.

Execution on the offense was exactly where we failed. We should've had 5 TD's instead of 5 FG's. 6 TD's if you count the 1st and goal at the VT 5 yardline that ends up being 3rd and 35 from the VT 40 yardline. We imploded there. Also VT has a much better defense that FAU and ASU.

Mike, read my earlier post. I never said the loss was Lee's fault. It clearly wasn't his fault. I have never said the loss was our defense's fault. It wasn't. I have never said the loss was O'Hanlon's fault. It wasn't. This game was lost predominently by poor timeout management (had we had not squandered our time outs earlier in the second half, Bo could have requested a press box look at Holt's endzone catch) and extremely poor play calling, especially late in the game by our offensive staff. This group of players played their hearts out today and deserved to win this game. Going into that final drive, Virginia Tech had less than 20 yards of total offense in the second half. That will win you a ball game 99% of the time. Being generous, Zac Lee didn't play very well today, but throwing the football when the clock was on our side made no sense at all. That's a coaching decision, not a Zac Lee decision. Throwing the football, in a close game when you have a quarterback who is struggling even makes less sense. Even the pass to O'Neill that was called back by holding I would question. You have it first and goal at the six yard line. Insert a full back and run the ball down their throats. Continually running quarterback draws with Lee in the second half again made no sense at all. In a game of this nature, you don't need Zac Lee to win the game for you, you simply need to make sure he doesn't lose the game for you. Watson's play calling on our final two drives was absolutely pathetic, especially the final drive. They are out of time outs and we need one first down and we can't get it.
