By loosing to top tier teams for 12 staight years we are ..... To the rest of the country. 1:44 on the 10 yard line and their QB has thrown for 65 yards. And their running game had been shut down. So how doesthe country view a football when they manage to give up a 82 yard play.....

I sat there eating buffalo wings and drinking beer and enjoying the good company all the while realizing that missed opportunities almost always come back to haunt you. Special teams outplayed them. The defense played championship for all But the first and LAST possesion. Total yards WA 271 to 142 until that final drive. So while the UW vs USC game was ignored by our group, we watched as our team once again found a way to lose to a top 20 team.

Intoxicated.  I don't give a rat's furry arse what the rest of the country thinks of Nebraska, I just want to win football games.  Hell, even when Nebraska was winning in the 1990s, most of the country said they would lose to Florida, Michigan was better than us in 1997, all kinds of crap.  Pelini has improved this team a TON in less than two years.

Exactly.  This game was almost exactly the same way the '94 OB ended against FSU.  We made sure that didn't happen again the following year.  Smiley

I completely disagee...

Nebraska went on the road and lost by 1 fricking point.  That in and of itself is progress.

I'm sure we'll be accused of being complacent and satisfied with a loss.  Bull"doody", of course, the reality is that Nebraska is not all the way back as of today, but we're close.

I thought there used to be a higher standard... on the road or not, dawgs or not, Nebraska went into every game knowing they would win, the players knew it, Bo knew it, fans knew it... and we have folks happy to take away silver linings from a game we should have rolled by 17+  Yes this is a young team, yes they will get better, yes we had a crap head for a coach and a D coordinator that should be nominated for largest mentally disabled person in the country, but that shouldn't matter, that doesn't matter.  What matters is that while the Huskers played on whale of a game save a few plays, they didn't get it done.  Thats not enough for Nebraska Football, its enough for Duke, Wake, Boise St, Wyoming et al, its not good enough for Nebraska, they need to improve in both coaching and execution, thats what was learned tonight, and I believe it was a tough lesson to learn, but one that will stick in the craw of every player on this team.

Who said otherwise?  Nebraska failed to seize an opportunity.  That's on the coaches.  They're accountable, which is part of that standard.  I believe the issues will be addressed and Nebraska is guaranteed no less than 9 wins this year, which I believe is what everybody wanted.  Losing = evil, sure, but unlike past years, I can say with certainty up the yin yang that this loss will not define this team.

Considering the mess Pelini inherited and we are still rebuilding yes I'm proud of the effort we gave on the road to a perrenial Top 15 powerhouse.  If this was say the same team we were in the mid 90s and played like this, then I can see why people are upset.

I like the certainty of the statement, what scares me is the hole we hid in on O on the road, I understand protecting a new QB on the road in a hostile environment, so you give it to your seasoned RB who got you 170 damn hard earned yards, but I also ask that if you are willing to give the game to man, let him decide it.  24 inches on fourth down, heck call it 36 inches one play... football is a game of inches, and as I've said alot tonight, we were one short.

problem is if Helu doesn't get and VT still scores, people will say Helu should have done this to get the 1st down and Pelini is still a boob for going for it on 4th and 1 instead of pinning them deep.  I'd be willing to bet that even Pete Caroll punts it instead of going for it.

Bowz...

I agree 100%.  This loss, as painful as it is, is 100% on the offense.

Yeah I agree, they had confidence in the defense, but as Solly said in another thread, they could have just as easily stopped them around midfield instead of giving them a shot on a fluke hail mary.  They'll get it right.
