I was at the game in 93 when Trev Alberts dislocated his elbow against the sooners.

Well,  the story goes ( sorry no link ) and I heard it from more than one source was after they put a hard cast on it the NCAA/Orange Bowl commitee? said he couldn't wear it for the game and he said " fine, take the ( expletive ) off ,  I'm playin' ".  Ended up wearing some foam rubber outfit.

Cam/Trev/Grant.

WE COULD BE BACK !!!!!

Wasn't that injury on Trev a cheap shot by the OU TE?

Yes it was .........right near the South end zone and very MISERY like.

Say more. I like clarity when the topic is the treachery of Husker opponents (btw...the misery comment is about 3 guys diving at Jarvis Redwine's knee on an extra point....the single most disgusting play I have ever seen in CFB---and I will forever HATE mizzloser for that criminal act.)

I want to say it's 3 months after they fix the shoulder capsule for them to know how well surgery worked.  Quite a few people have played through the pain of this injury only to regret the arthritis in the ball joint later. And it leaves a player vulnerable; they form bad habits to protect their shoulder that will hurt them AND their teammates. Sometimes you have to walk away from football to heal. Maybe it would be a good idea to get it repaired sooner than later if it pops out again.

You got it.! A Hskr...thanks.   Just needed some memory jog. 1978 I think ?   You know my memory is the second shortest thing ..blah..blah...blah.  Age.....I hate it!

I was trying to remember that specific MISERY play.  Remember listening on the radio and then seeing the highlights Sunday night.  BLATANT dive at the knees.  Thats the moment they almost overtook ScuM as my most disliked/hated organization.

You don't heal dislocated shoulders.  It takes years for them to tighten back up, and they rarely tighten back to normal.  If he intends to finish his career he'll probably require surgery.  They are very good at fixing this type of injury today.

Well, considering you were telling us it "Must be a bicep muscle tear or sprain of a minor ligament in his shoulder." after it happened I not sure your medical advise should be considered very sound  Roll Eyes

If he dislocated his shoulder he more than likely stretched out the shoulder capsule and will probably continue to have recurrent dislocations.  The only way to fix this is for a surgeon to go in there and tighten the capsule (assuming he didn't also tear the rotator cuff or labrum).  The recovery time is 4-6 months.  With rehab strengthening and a brace he should be able to get through the season and have it fixed at the end of the season.

Provided he can get through the pain.  I had a slightly separated shoulder and I had to eat with my left hand for a week! Man I'm telling you, it hurt. I was able to raise it to a certain degree, but there was a sticking point to where it would send a shock wave of pain. Once I got past that point it seem okay. That was back sometime in '89. To this day if I lift hard (bench press and such) I can still feel it. It doesn't feel like the good shoulder. But of course I'm a wuss so that might change things a bit.  Tongue

You have to realize there are two possible shoulder dislocations, anterior and posterior.  The anterior is the ball of the joint slipping out of the capsule.  The posterior cannot come out of the capsule, rather the mass of ligaments in the shoulder hold it in, but the ball slips back and cuts off the nerve and blood supply for an instant.  Either one involves a minor sprain.  The latter often involves a muscle tear.  I was only pointing out high probability situations.

It looked to me at the time they were trying to put the should back in the socket...And did so, because when he walked off his arm swing was normal.

I said the same in another thread.

I think Cam should sit out this week and make sure he's fully healed heading into the game against Washington.

I mean it's Idaho for cripes sake...it's not like he's desperately needed at this point.

And besides, this is a type of injury that could reoccur at any time and we're going to need Cam much more as the season progresses.

Agree completely.

I agree as well. Keep him ready and see what Ankah can do as the backup and Williams as the 2nd starter. The preseason is over after this week.
