That would be nice, but after the debacle of our offense last year, not going to happen this year.

I'd be very happy and surprised if they just make to the Conf. championship game next year. Some big loses through graduation on the D, loss of two coaches including one of the best D backs coaches in the country. Add to the that a complete upheaval on the O with a new system coming in, a huge question mark at QB, marginal talent at WR, an OL that was pathetic at towards the end of the year, some coaches still on the staff that many here feel should be terminated, new coaches coming in which will make the staff chemistry a big unknown and it doesn't add up to anything close to a MNC. IMHO, anything 7-5 or better should be considered a success next year.

While I'm certainly not going to guarantee anything I do want to point out that a national title is certainly possible.

I mean think about it...Nebraska was, seriously now, a competent OC and WR coach away from being undefeated this year!

1.  Okay we lost to Texas -- 8 dropped passes 4 of which should have been TD's.  Grrr!

2.  Lost by 3 to Texas A&M (who had the benefit of a corrupt Big 12 officiating crew) and Oklahoma (went -3 in turnovers after being up 17.

3.  Lost the bowl game because: a) the OL wouldn't block for TM, b) SW's zone read on 1st and 2nd down (regardless of there being 8, 9 or 10 defenders in the box) and c) Nebraska simply didn't think Washington could beat them and they prepared in a half-assed manner.

The point: Nebraska isn't as far away from an undefeated season / national title as one might think.  We did manage 10 wins after all and that was with a moron OC and worthless WR's coach.

With QB competition and depth (Martinez, Green, Carnes and Turner) ready for Spring Practice we should have a much better situation than last year at this time.  Losing Helu hurts, but between Aaron Green and Ameer Abdulah we have serious replacements.  The OL will actually be stronger imo.  Bigger, smarter and more athletic plus meaner.  Yes, we lost Henry on the mean side, but he gets replaced by Qvale whose bigger, smarter and more athletic (can pass block as well as run block).  And the TE/WR's will play a bigger part in the offense so you will see just how talented we are at WR.  When you do you will wonder why it didn't happen three years earlier.

So yes 94 we have a real chance to do great things next year.  And if somebody gets hurt or gets their panties all in knot we will be able to replace him with equal or almost equal talent.  Nice for a change.

I agree SCV the OL will be much improved.  We have depth and the OL class coming in was rated #2 by Rivals.  The WR's should be much improved with RB coaching them.  RB's behind Rex are Green  Smiley but will be play makers. The competition at the QB spot will be nice for a change.  If TM gets hurt we have guys behind him (Carnes,Turner) who have the same skill set.

Here's an idea:  Starling at QB,+T-Mart to play a Bobby Newcomb role (we need some life in the return game and a deep threat in passing game)+ Green moves to TE=B10 Champs!
