This in from the not ready to move on file: (Don't read on if you don't want to look back at the Texas Conference)
Of course hindsight is 20/20, but does anyone think that Bo regrets the nixing of the "Beat Texas" at the end of what I believe was a video?( I actually never saw it so I'm not sure what it was.) It seems, in addition to not wanting to look subordinate to the giant that is UT, that Bo didn't want to wake the sleeping giant.  It may have been that underplaying the importance of the game backfired on Bo, because we certainly looked flat that October day. Also, it turned out that UT really did suck last year and had no business beating us. IMO, had we come out all fired up, instead of the businesslike approach we took, we would have smoked 'em. I think Bo thought they were a much better team than they were and didn't want to provoke them.

I think it's hard to claim that we underplayed the importance of the game. Despite Bo's best efforts, that was a game that the team and fan base was really focused on and wanted badly. If anything, I think the pressure of wanting it so badly got to the team, who then crumbled under the pressure.

I agree with tfree.

The players don't exist in a vacuum.  They knew exactly how big that game was.  Flat wasn't the issue.  Tight was the issue.  All those dropped balls and a QB abandoning his fundamental reads in an effort to do too much were a direct result of being wound too tight for that game.  We were the better team at that point in the season, and should have beat them.  Removal of "beat Texas" from a video had nothing to do with that.

Bo (and many of us fans) didn't care for a pre-season hype job that defined the season on a single game. There are many reasons to agree with him on that.  Not only does that put too much pressure no a single game, but more importantly, it detracts from focusing on each game (and before that, on each step in the process leading to each game) and in event of a loss, it sets you up for a string of them.  It's just "bad MoJo" to approach a season like that - and very Un-Nebraska.
