Knowing, and managing your weaknesses is the key to any successful leader.

Very true............and to quote someone who had a great influence on me....."Surround yourself with people who are good at what you're not ,and let them do their jobs.  Just make damn sure that you hold them accountable for their results."

Darin will become a rock star HC for NU. Smile people.
These are the kind of comments that bother me. They seem to be based solely on the fact that he's a Husker legend and nothing else. Yeah, it's real neat having a Husker legend come back and coach, but once you step on the field and play, none of that matters. I admire the optimism comments like this show, and I really hope such optimism is realistic, but I think had we hired a more proven coach from somewhere else we wouldn't get as many of these predictions despite the fact that there would be more reason to have such optimism. Darin Erstad is a great guy and his love for NU is obvious, so he is easy to root for. But I think skepticism is warranted, and just making bold predictions about him being a great head coach don't really serve much purpose. But I'm fully 100% behind this hire even though I don't really agree with it and I fervently hope any skepticism turns out to be unfounded.

And yours are the type that bother me; stupid. You said "they seem" that would be a good clue for you to stop right there. You have no idea what my reasons are. But about Erstad...do you need positive arguments spelled out to you? If so then you should have no position now. Osborne and Scioscia, for example, have opinions that intelligent folks would consider carefully.

Here's an example of your wisdom on this topic.....

TO is not cut out to be an AD. He needs to step down and hand the reins over to someone who has the balls to fire someone and is not interested in excuses. This is absolutely inexcusable mismanagement of the program.

RE: Erstad to join the coaching staff
It's a volunteer coaching job.  So he can leave at any time if he thinks MA is a douche.

or he could replace him Wink

One thing that Osborne said during the press conference that puzzled me was when he mentioned that Erstad wasn't overly concerned about the money aspect of the job.

So does that mean we are getting Erstad on the cheap, and was that a factor in the hiring decision?

I don't know any salary details, but Erstad donated $1 million to the Athletic Department a few years back.  That was the largest single donation until Suh's $2 million donation for athletics.

That was the largest single donation by a former player.  The largest donation was $5 million by I believe their last name was Meier or Meyer.

I am not concerned at all with in game managing, that is the easy part. Here is to hoping he can develop talent over time instead of having guys peak and then not even crack the rotation two years later.
