Coach Cook won't get anywhere near fired. But we may not see Lauren wear a Husker jersey again, at least this year.

It all hinges on how he deals with his kid.  If he gives her a slap on the wrist no he probably won't get fired, but he also won't be in TO's good graces either.  If he suspends her for a few games and she serves whatever sentence they pass down then of course he won't.  Far from it.  JMO

It's already been handled between T.O. and Cook. They're just waiting to see how the legal aspect shakes out before anything is made public.

She'll be treated fairly, according to A.D. policies and team rules.

A Felony is handled in a more serious mode than a few games on suspension. A DUI would get a few games off, a repeat offense of driving on a suspended license after 4 speeding tickets is grounds for a few games off. A Felony conviction should get her kicked off the team permanently if they are to stay consistent. What other felony conviction by an athlete resulted in a slap on the wrist.

She left the scene, then called in 14 minutes later (after talking to her mom). The DA may find the appropriate misdemeanor to charge her with. A felony conviction screws up her life for good. She did a very stupid and irresponsible thing, and let down a lot of people. I am on the fence what would be fair. You have to remove star volleyball player from the situation to see this clearly. Maybe some of the lawyers on BHF can chime in on whether the call 14 minutes later drops this to a misdemeanor.

I'm sure she will be treated fairly.  I even think I heard this morning that she's at least suspended for the 2 games this weekend but can still practice until they find out more at her hearing on Monday.

The 14 minute delay is the longest delay that I've seen reported.  The previous time lengths for the delay in reporting the accident that I had seen reported were 6-8 minutes.  Hard to say what is reality but I think  you are right, the time delay between accident and calling it in could easily drive the determination as to if she gets the felony charge or a misdemeanor charge.

Even if she's initially charged with a felony, I think it's likely it gets plead down to a misdemeanor. There's no doubt that what she did was serious, but it also needs to be kept in perspective. She hurt two people, but it was an accident. She left the scene, but she did later call the police. It may be that she only called because of issues with her tire or because she talked to her mother who insisted she call. But the fact remains that she did place the call.

So while what she did was certainly both criminal and serious, some perspective is also called for. My best guess this early in the case is that it gets plead down to a misdemeanor and she misses some period of time between a couple of weeks and the rest of the season. It sucks that a team that is a legitimate national title contender would lose such a key player. But hopefully she and others will learn from this. And as I don;t think she'll be kicked off the team, I think she'll come back strong either later this season or for the next one.

She's getting charged tomorrow. The 911 calls came out today....if anything, her call will help her case, a lot I would guess.
