This is Solich's 7th year at Ohio.  HIs record... 45 wins and 37 losses.  A winning percentage of 55%.  The Bobcats have been to 3 minor bowls in 7 years; lost all 3.

It's nice he's found a place to be head coach at.

BTW - I like the new wave Bobcat uniforms tonight.

As bad as Ohio had been prior to his arrival, that record, and the fact that the Bobcats have made 3 Bowls is nothing short of miraculous.

I maybe should have checked this forum before posting an Ohio-Temple thread in the College Football USA forum.  It is interesting though because I also made the point (without having read this first) about as long as Frank Solich can win 6-7 games annually with an occassional 8 and a blue moon 9 win season mixed in he'll be able to coach at Ohio for probably as long as he desires to.

You are right, and I hope Bobcat fans appreciate him.  Here at UNM the Lobos got rid of Rocky Long for winning 6-7-8 games per year because he went 4-7 his final season.  They hire a hotshot OC from Illinois (Mike Locksley) who boasted that the scoreboard would need another digit with the offense that he planned to run here.  After back to back 1-11 marks, and an 0-5 start this year, he was fired for disgracing the university on and off the field.  Winning 6-8 games a year at OHIO should be plenty of job security.

How do you think Bob Davie is going to do with the Lobos?  He's got a tough road in front of him.

Tough road...that's an understatement to be sure.

I think that if they give Bob Davie the time he can, in a couple of years, probably get the team to consistently win 6 or 7 games a season.  But I also think that his first couple of seasons will be 2-10 to 4-8 types of records so the Lobos fans will need to be patient.

If Lobo fans expect more than that then I think they're going to be sorely disappointed.

Strange circumstances surrounding this hire the last two days.  In short, the day before Davie was hired,Glen Mason was all but a done deal to be the next coach (I'm talkin plane on the tarmac certain).  The local radio stations were going ballistic with stupid comments like "Who is Glen Mason, we want Mike Leach" bullsh!+!  One day later, it is announced that Bob Davie will be the next Lobo coach. As a Lobo fan (after NU of course),  I hope he can turn things around.  At the presser Davie said all the right things though.  His focus will be keeping quality NM players at home, and recruiting TX, AZ and CA, which was a recipe for success with Rocky Long and Dennis Franchione.  The mistake Locksley made (one of many) was to focus recruiting primarily on the east coast.  Now we have a program full of DC and Virginia recruits that have absolutely no allegiance to NM and the Lobos.  The Lobos have been successful when anchored by NM high school athletes (Brian Urlacher, Hank Baskett, Rodney Ferguson).  If Davie can keep some of our premier players at home (like Bobby Newcombe, Alan Branch (formerly of Michigan) and Landry Jones) that will be a huge step in the right direction.

You're right though Jen, this is going to be an uphill battle.  By the way, care to make a prediction for the upcoming UNM - Boise St game in two weeks?

You're right about the recruiting. There are some players in Albuquerque and even Santa Fe. Hit Phoenix, California, Texas, even Las Vegas and Reno. It will be tough with the mess there now. If he can win 4 games next year and build on that, he may be ok.

Sorry Albq but Boise State should win this one rather easily.  But in a college football season where Iowa State defeated Oklahoma State anything is possible.

To have a chance at winning, the Lobos will have to play the game of their lives and Boise State will need to be emulate Nebraska--sloppy, unfocused, etc.

Your'e too nice.  I'm afraid Boise St may hang a hundy on this Lobo defense.

Well... Leach is at Washington State.  I'm going to follow them a little closer next year.  I think Leach is one of the best offensive minds in CFB right now.

Leach is going have an incredibly tough road ahead as well.  When Leach was at Texas Tech he could draw on a vast pool of talent where football is considered at least as important as brisket and BBQ.  At WSU, he has no where near the in-state talent to draw from and most people could care less about the Cougars.

Congrats to Frank to leading them to their first bowl win ever and I think Leach will turn wsu around pretty fast honestly.  He's that good.
