Hearing lots of talk, most of it out of the state of PA, that JoePa should resign or be fired. I am not sure it is that cut and dry although I will be voting that I think he should resign.

Absolutely disgusting situation everywhere you turn with this story. Heads will roll and you would have to think, even if taking no directly blame, the negative turn this is taking for that university and that football program will result in him retiring soon.

He should resign immediately. If he refuses to do so, he should be fired. Everyone who knew about this and did nothing...from the then grad assistant now WR coach/recruiting coordinator to University President Spanier... need to be removed. And it needs to happen right now.

Absolutely sickening. And there are no excuses for how poorly it was handled.

I actually liked Paterno until this story broke. Now I think he's a complete scumbag and piece of human excrement.

It's not like he's actually coaching.

He should resign.

Looks as if he's going to resign and won't coach next year.

What about on Saturday? Is he going to roam the sidelines? It'd be wrong if he was coaching the rest of this year.

The New York Times is reporting that Penn State is dicussing JoPa's exit package.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2011/11/report-penn-state-planning-joe-paternos-exit/1

AP and Fox stations in the Penn State area reporting that JoePa has announced he will retire at the end of the season. Saturday will be his last home game if he is there.

That was among the most depressing things I've read.

This is disgusting, the NCAA needs to absolutely annihilate Penn State football. SMU's death penalty doesn't even begin to touch on what needs to be done. That needs to be a slap on the wrist by comparison to this. I'm not even kidding with this, but the NCAA needs to just cancel Penn State football for the next five years. Let every kid on the roster transfer no questions asked. This program employed a child molester, allowed him free reign in the department basically after retiring, then ****ing covered up that he was having sex with a child in the shower. That's beyond unreal to me.

If this happened at Nebraska, I would by all accounts find a dumpster and toss all my apparel into it and light it on fire. I wouldn't want to be associated at all with an athletic department that pretty much gave this pervert the green light.

Schultz and Curley need to be in jail for a LONG time, Paterno needs to get the axe for employing a pedophile. Yes he reported it to his bosses, but to not report it to the actual police is pathetic and should get him fired and some sort of punishment for being an enabler by association.

Sandusky? Whatever he gets isn't enough I can say that right now.

The thing is, there are no NCAA violations here. The NCAA can't touch the program. That being said, there is no way that the University recovers from this. Their new nickname is "Pedophile State" now. It's going to be crippled, financially, by the lawsuits that are coming. Parents aren't going to want to send their kids to a University where no one is held accountable, hell, where no one has the morals to stand up for what's right. If the new administration that's coming at Penn State has any testicular fortitude, they would axe the program themselves.

While this will make it official, Paterno has called as many plays for PSU in the last few years as I have.  But it's over now, and another coaching legend is leaving with a stain that will be remembered long after the victories.

Numerous sources saying the trustees have his exit mapped all except the date. "Days or weeks" and he's gone.
They cancelled his routine weekly pressed.
His last game might be against us... If he makes it that far.

Here is the original NY Times article:

NY Times

So now the guy who holds the record for most wins despite not actually acting as a true head coach for several years is going to go out about a decade late and with this horrible image attached to his departure.  Wow.  Life sure kicks ya in the balls sometimes.  It's a cold reminder of how important it is to "do the right thing" at all times.  Joe might have followed the letter of the law by informing his superiors, but he should have made damn sure that the police were informed.  Every person on the planet should feel obligated to report suspected child abuse of any kind.  This was amoral failure, for sure.

I also have to call into question the written law as it pertains to educators.  Why is the law written as such that it requires the educators to report abuse to their superiors rather than the police or Child Protective Services?  That's a dumb way to write a law.  Teachers should be required to report abuse directly.  There is no reason for it to be left to another party.  Dumb law, dumb idea.  And a dumb and despicable decision by Coach Paterno.

I really hope he's not the head coach on Saturday.

I can't imagine it would take a few weeks to have an exit fee for Paterno. If the University wants to save whatever face they have, they have to get this done before Saturday's game.

Should be fired without having the opportunity to resign.  If he promoted that GA that told him to a full time assistant coach in exchange for him being quiet for the last decade, he should be charged as an accessory.  Disgusting.

Knowing that often pedophiles do not always operate in a vacuum that is the form rings. This thing may be far from over considering what may be found on computers located on the campus and within the organization of the non-profit that Sandusky was a part.

This may involve hush money this has gone on far too long to not have some deeply involved cover-up. I think there is great panic at PSU they have no contingency other than continued stonewall...

He shouldn't be.  He had a moral obligation to report this to authorities and failed to do so.  I think this is one of the ugliest things to ever happen to college football.  It's disgusting and the fact that people with clout had knowledge and did little or nothing is awful.
