I've been watching Washington boxscores since the preseason. Why is that? Because Paul made the active roster, and had the chance to break a dubious streak; a reciever from Nebraska hadn't caught a pass in the NFL since Irving Fryar retired following the 2000 season. Even more interesting, not counting Fryar, a Husker wideout** hadn't caught a pass since 1989, when in his lone NFL season Dana Brinson caught 12 passes for the Chargers. Well, I missed the big game, for on October 23 in a loss against the Panthers, Niles caught 2 balls for 25 yards. So, congrats to Niles and here's to hoping your NFL career ends up more Irving Fryar than Dana Brinson.
**NOTE: This depends on how you choose to classify Tyronne Hughes. In the pros he was used almost exclusively as a return man, but did see snaps as a DB. However, at Nebraska Hughes was a wingback and in 1997 he caught 8 passes for the Bears (not sure if he subbed in due to injuries, or played regularly on offense). But Pro-Fooball Reference lists him as a receiver, and he nearly had as many career picks (4) as catches, so I chose to not include him.

What about Crouch? Wasn't he drafted it the 3rd round as WR in 2002?

I don't think Crouch made the active roster as a WR for any NFL team.
Mr. Bennett - nice post. Man... I didn't know it had been that long for a Nebraska receiver in the NFL to make a catch. Yikes.

You are correct Big Sky he never did make an active NFL roster.

What about Nate Swift and Todd Peterson? Haven't they caught any passes? They are still in the NFL aren't they?

If you are kidding I get it, if no, Peterson I think ended his playing career right after college and Nate never made it on a fulltime squad.

I honestly didn't know. This season I think I've watched maybe 2 quarters total of NFL football. Last season I think I might have watched 2 games in total. I just don't care about or follow anything pertaining to the league. Sorry.

Nate and Todd never made an active roster. Mo Purify played a game or two for the Bengals, but didn't snag a pass.

Jen we are talking 4 years ago regarding Peterson and Swifty. Todd hung up the cleats right after the 2008 season and Swifty tried unsuccesfully in the fall of 2009 to make it on I believe 2 different teams b4 getting cut in the preseason from both teams. Swifty hasn't tried again since. I'm not a big NFL fan. I only follow them because I always have a fantasy team every year. Otherwise I wouldn't be watching unless San Francisco is on TV. Which in Nebraska they rarely are.

Has Chris Brooks made an active roster in his career? I know he's gotten some good run in pre-season games with both the Colts and Bucs. For some reason, I thought he had some run during the regular season as well and made a catch or two.

I don't know about his stint with the Colts. But when he was with the Bucs, he made some nice catches in some exhibition games. But he made a costly fumble on a long pass completion, and then was cut.
