Nebraska basketball is playing a much better (but still not great) non-con this year than they have in previous years.  I think fans really appriciate this considering some fans have been complaining about this for years.  Nebraska is trying to keep scheduling the non-con better.  The following is an article from the LJS on how we were really close to playing at Duke and at Madison Square Garden against Pitt.

Playing Duke would have been epic.  Unfortunately, it didn't work out.  Gotta give Nebraska credit for trying....hope they don't stop and find a few big games for next year.

Coach Doc Sadler's normal philosophy is to expect BCS teams to play in a home-and-home series, not a one-time deal.
He was willing to make an exception with Duke, after the Blue Devils brushed aside Nebraska's offer for a home-and-home series or neutral site game.

Duke would host NU on Dec. 3, with no return game.

"With their name and recognition and how good they are, we decided we'd do that," Croft said. "Our guys deserved the challenge. We were ready to roll the dice on that one."

The problem: NU had already scheduled Creighton on Dec. 4. The Bluejays, Croft said, initially weren't willing to move the date, so Nebraska said no to Duke.

A few weeks later, Creighton, with a chance to play Dayton that first weekend of December, said it'd be willing to move the Nebraska game into November. Nebraska was fine with that. But when Croft called Duke to accept the Dec. 3 game, Duke said it had, by that point, already scheduled enough Big Ten teams.

I do like the fact they tried.  I'm glad DOC decided a return trip by Duke wasn't necessary, but I would've bought a ticket to see that game is Duke had obliged.  Duke is good enough to demand to an up and comer like NU not to have a return date in Lincoln.  If NU starts scheduling those games at schools like Duke eventually NU will be able to demand a return date in Lincoln.

It wouldn't be pretty but better then playing powder puffs.  I have enjoyed our improved schedule this year so far.  Although, usually we are 12-1 heading into conference.

You're right it wouldn't be pretty but if you want to compete at a high level you need to play a team or 2 like this every year in the non-conf to see where you stand.  To bad it didn't work out.

Wow, maybe we can get them next year.  I'm fine with a one-and-done on the road vs. a team like Duke.

I honestly don't know where my loyalties would like if Nebraska were to play Duke. My head might explode, especially if we got them to play in Lincoln.

I'm the same way if NU and North Carolina ever locked horns.    Smiley

I'd love to see us get some of these marquee teams on the schedule. Even though we'd be overmatched, playing teams like that would have to help with recruiting and increasing the program's exposure.

If either of these scenarios happen, we've got to meet up at the game.

That would be fine with me.  If either 1 of those 2 teams comes to Lincoln to play Nebraska heck yeah brother.  Smiley

They want to schedule a team like Duke...seriously?  Based on what I saw last night against Ohio State, Duke would probably beat the Huskers by 70.

Doubt it, but if NU wants to be taken seriously if they ever make the NCAA tourney again need to play a team or 2 like Duke to up their RPI.

Ohio State is a very, very good basketball team.  They absolutely CRUSHED Duke and would do it again if given the chance.

The schedule Nebraska has now is more than fine.  Their non-con was far better than previous years and they now play an 18 game conference schedule.  IT'S NOT THEIR SCHEDULE!!!  In a power conference, you take care of business in your conference and the rest takes care of itself.

Nebraska is playing the 21st hardest schedule in the nation according to RealTimeRPI.  Seriously, what more do you want out of them?

Our schedule isn't our problem, it's L.O.F.T.  That is, Lack Of F***ing Talent.  It's not scheduling Duke.   Roll Eyes
