Yeah, you're right. Our starting center (and only viable post player offensively) who averages 11 points and 5 boards and our best shooter/scorer on our entire team wouldn't have made a bit of difference in a game we scored 40 points in.
I'm all for a coaching change, but come on, let's not jump over the cliff. We have major injury problems at this point. Not saying we are good, but we aren't THAT bad.

a few thoughts:
hop aboard the bo-llercoaster! how does he get no flak? i said it before the season. you can't rely on a guy with that poor of a shooting percentage. he's so inconsistent shooting. i'd look up the game by game stats, but the stats on huskers.com are a hunk of junk. anyway, we all know he shot 2-11 last night and has had a bunch of 4-13, 4-12, etc games. those are atrocious nights. and then he'll shoot 9-15 and get 22 pts. is he more valuable than jeter was last year? i don't know. he obviously scores better, but not every night. you don't know what you're going to get. he doesn't get to the hole or the line. twice last night he had a mismatch on the perimeter with berrgen on him and settled for long jumpers. i don't know, does anyone else have thoughts on spencer or did everyone just buy into the hype and forget it?
tough night inside last night, both passing it in and driving. wisconsin fronted the post hard and also sagged way off into the paint on help side. so hard to get it in. people want to say drive, drive, drive. but when the help is already there before you put it on the floor, it's hard. ubel just didn't have the strength to fight off the front, and that lob is hard against the help side. they went in twice to start the second half, and off the under 16 and got a few more lobs, but they shut down the post game. diaz would've helped, but i'm not sure how much without his physicality. definitely would've improved, if nothing else to run it through the post for a kick out. tough to play offense when you can't get it inside at all. talley is also a good player off the dribble. spencer not so much, richardson is, walker is sort of in between. not many drivers for NU.
NU had to hit open shots when they got them. early, they hit the 3s obviously. but the little curl was there at the top of the key. they 15-17 footer with a little space. gotta rise up and hit that against wisconsin. i think walker hit one. bo had a nice dish to mccray down to the post off a catch up there. just didn't make enough shots. or even take them, really.
don't know what's with defending the 3. it seems like that's always a problem for NU, although i think the stats show they've usually been pretty good percentage wise. but it seems, to the eye, that they always leave someone open off the help on a drive. i guess that probably comes from doc really basing his d off on-ball defense. but there needs to be a rotation there. i don't know that you're going to win any game letting someone shoot 11-21 from 3. that was frustrating.
don't know what this game means. missing 2 key cogs. but will those 2 get back? who knows? i wouldn't really bet on it. they're both sort of chronic injuries. i don't really think they "get better" so much as just tone down to tolerable. i'd feel better about what was coming up if i felt like those 2 guys had a chance to get healthy and see the floor. maybe they will, but i'm betting on the curse of nebraska basketball striking again.

Spot on about Bo, Hanny. On one hand, we knew exactly what Jeter was going to give us night in and night out. On the other hand, despite being hot and cold, he can put up a ton of points and at moments, take over games.
As far as injuries go, I think we are cursed. I sometimes think that our bad luck will never end.

I would foam at the mouth if Nebraska gets Greg McDermott just to see Creighton fans jumping off the Bob Kerry pedestrian bridge.
Well, McDermott has already proven this year he can win in the Big Ten and maybe will have more Big Ten wins than Doc this year....
You beat a HORRIBLE Iowa team at neutral location. It took a freak double-technical rob-job 8 point play from the officials to get the momentum back from a poorly playing Nebraska team who had you on the ropes on your own floor. You beat an overrated Northwestern team at home who got blown out by 30 twice agaist the other two ranked teams they played. It's really not all that impressive. I'm pretty sure we could take care of Northwestern on our home floor too and we very well may sweep Iowa. We will probably have a few more wins along the way if we get our team healthy.
The only thing McDermott has proven at the major level is that he was the worst coach in the league. He couldn't even muster a winning season despite having a future NBA lotto pick and a 7' NBA 1st rounder. McDermott was garbage in a big-time conference. I'll give him credit though, he's pretty good mid-major coach and he's doing really well at Creighton right now. I also like him as a person. However, let's not pretend and talk about McDermott being able to own the Big 10. Seriously Creighton fans, reality please.

With the foot problems, Diaz has no upside. Would suspect this will be a problem the rest of his career!
Might as well, get used to Bo not scoring, sign of things to come next year!

One of the best practice facilaties in the nation, new arena, the Big 10. There are good coaches who would take this job, especially if you offered a pretty penny and promised them at least 5 years. Hopefully we get the hire right this time. Looking back on it, I still don't think Doc was a terrible hire, he just ended up not being able to recruot well enough.

While it would be funny, McDermott is a worse major coach than Doc is. I like the guy, but he would fail at Nebraska.
I'm not sure (other than a big name coach) that anyone would succeed at NU. It's a tough place to coach basketball at.
What advantages does Manhattan KS have over Lincoln? What about Waco, TX? Guess what, it is tough all over brother... I will tell you one difference, there is no commitment to success in Lincoln when it comes to Basketball.
It is sad, there is no reason why NU hoops cannot be a top 50 program year in and year out.

I guess I understand this defense for the past 20 years, but with the new everything coming its way, it is pretty hard to say that the basketball program lacks any commitment now. Things are coming around and they are doing what they can. I don't think Doc is the answer and it is not because he can't recruit its because he won't recruit. He is in love with this slow plodding style of basketball and thinks that he doesn't need the ballers because he can teach a bunch of low skill players how to play tight defense and hopefully pull off enough wins to make a difference. Well it isn't working on the court, it isn't impressing anybody that would be interested in coming here in the first place, and it is excruciating to watch year in and year out.

I honestly think we may be primed to get a decent hire. Look at the positives from an outsider's perspective:
- NU will have had a losing season, so expectations will be tempered
- New arena
- New practice facility
- New member of Big 10 conference so there still will be a chance to capture some of that excitement if we don't languish too long
- AD who is extremely patient with coaches and has coached in division I athletics before
The top of my list would be Groce from Ohio.

Dang,
Ive been a frustrated Husker fan for years and just dont know what to say. I like Doc, but I also liked Danny Nee and Moe Iba. Nee had us on the cusp in the early 90's and won a Big 8 tourni, an NIT tourni, and got us to the Big Dance a few times. Iba got us to the dance as well. I want Doc to succeed, but I think wth the injury problems this year Osborne gives him one more year. Next year could be a disaster. Whats our starting line up look like next year? A bunch of spur of the moment plugged in juco guys? I honestly bought inot the hype that this was gonna be our year to at leat maybe get to the big dance and make some noise. Damn, we'd be lucky at this juncture to be let into the same arena as half the Big 10 teams. They may end up having to sneak us in and out a side entrance.
