I think that all the negative stuff that needs to be said has been said at this point. Having said that, the one thing I really hoped for was a send off into the new year better than the one we had last year. As a lifelong Husker fan, I'm extremely sad at this juncture. I don't see things getting much better, and I don't see any changes being made to help things.
The Huskers were a marginal team in a weak conference and there is nothing in my mind to think that they are going to improve anytime soon. Mediocre coaching, mediocre talent and mediocre results. Not really what I had in mind when Pelini was hired, and I hope not what the the powers that be had in mind as well.

Maybe I'm more prepared for this kind of thing than most. As a lifelong Royals, Chiefs, Husker basketball/baseball and Pacers fan, I have had some practice with these types of things. Having said that, I still have hope for the future. Our offense seemed a little better, and we have the same coach who has put out some amazing defenses recently. Maybe that's my mentality from following years of futility in other sports, but I do understand the frustration pent up in many people. This is the only sport I can rely on for consistent success and that isn't what we are seeing. Here's to next year!

Once the post bowl din has died down, I won't even bother posting here because I have no faith anymore. Why bother? We had some neat hope with Carnes in the spring game, but he was never seen again. And the giddy "Watson is gone" euphoria was in retrospect stupidity. This team has light years to go, and the current coaching staff, in my opinion, will never get within sniffing distance of anything. This year's bowl game was regression, and anyone who says otherwise is not being honest with themselves.

Keep the faith.....don't give up. My father kept his season tickets throughout the futility of the 40's and 50's and kept believing that better days were around the corner. Then Bill Jennings said that Nebraska could never be successful. My dad despised that guy and refused to believe it. Then Devaney was hired, and the rest is history.
All we need is the right head coach. Pelini may or may not be that guy, but eventually the right guy will come along again.

According to research cited in "The Sociopath Next Door," one in every 25 people is a sociopath. This means they have no conscience and no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt or remorse. They can literally do anything at all without feeling guilty. You undoubtedly know at least one.

While I understand the frustration and the occasional need for a "vacation" from message boards, giving up just doesn't seem feasible. Grab sometime away, recharge the big red batteries and take a cue from the fight song. While this group hasn't played to our standards, I still see kids out there trying their hardest while representing our school with that N on the helmet. As long as that is happening, those guys deserve dedicated fans like you and I cheering for them every Saturday.

I will never give up. I've been around too long for that. If nothing else, I owe it to my Dad who played in the late 50s. But the fact is that this current regime leaves so much to be desired that getting excited for next year is a folly that I won't be getting caught up in. I will be ready come next fall, but I sure won't believe and ounce of poo that comes out of this program on progress until I see results on the field against real opponents. The Huskers placed fifth in a conference that just got prison raped in the bowl games, again.
I expected better, wished for better, and got garbage. Not too many ways to put a flower on that turd.

I understand and share in your frustration my friend. We all do!
But believe me when I say we did all we could with what we had. And plenty is being done behind the scenes to, I won't say turn things around (because things are not as bad as some would have you believe), but to get better. Unfortunately for the good of all they just cannot lay out each every move for us in black & white.
I know you don't want to hear it but its only been four years since the cancer known as BC was sent packing and BP was brought in to turns things around. And while NU went backwards under BC almost everyone else went forward. Some very far forward. We have to seriously consider all that Bo has gone through in terms of player issues and coaches either moving on or being forced to move on. Scheme problems and changes on offense. This was the first season under a new OC. That cannot be ignored nor discounted. We have a QB who is limited for various reasons and had no one behind him who we could trust to do better People want to debate about player development and recruiting. Carnes isn't getting it. Turner struggles with everything he does, how can everyone expect him to take over the offense. And Bubba went for baseball.
I think we all had high expectations of BP, especially after his defensive turnaround in his first season, to come in and have us playing for bigger stakes quicker. But none of us could see all the barriers that he would face in terms of the things I spoke of. Patience is the key and unfortunately most don't have any.
The option some seem to be advocating over these past few losses is the worst possible option there is. Some actually want to change head coaches, and I am telling you now, it quite possibly could be the death blow to this fine, historic program. We cannot go backwards again. The game is moving too fast! Be patient, let the program get to full speed and then we will see how everyone feels.

Truer words have never been spoken Bummer. We all want to get back to the glory days of the mid 90s. It took Osborne 21 years to get to that point. I know I don't want to wait that long but the damage done by Billy C is taking longer and will take than 4 years.
Not to mention a big par of our problem is the lack of on field leadership by the players. We haven't seen that since at least the '99 season on both sides of the ball. We find a few guys on both sides of the ball to step into those roles. That will help exponentially going forward.

I think instead of all the belly aching and woe is me comments we should spend our time collecting data from this past season and break down the season's production and then examine each spot on the team and review the personnel for the upcoming season. Bitching serves no purpose, it is negative wasted energy and says that there is no intent to pitch in, but stand around and wait for someone else to do the work.

Roscoe, and exactly what are you going to do with all that data? You only need to go to this site and its there for you to peruse right now.

We dont drive the team, we dont coach the team, we get to observe the team, ergo the frustation and disappointment.

Bummer, did you just call out Carnes and Turner as too dumb to be coached??? Who gave them scholarships?
Why not call out the coaches as being too dumb to recruit???

Got to have leadership on the field, and I just don't know if Pelini is the kind of guy that will give them the latitude to take that step.

Who says he hasn't? It's more no one has stepped up. The opportunity is there.
