Do you think Turner will be given a shot at QB this year? I would like to see him get a legit shot, as well as Carnes make a push. I'm a big TM suporter, but not sure he's the answer unless he returns to his old running form.
His footwork maybe the worst I've ever seen on a D1 QB, but that's coaching IMO, and can be fixed over the spring.
Turner, I think, atleast gives us a better running threat and if he could pick up the offense could make the throws needed. I'm not looking for him to throw like Aaron Rodgers, but I think JT could be very good for us.

Yes, I think he will. We've got more depth at WR.

I think it was said on here that if they moved him back to QB he'd have to take a RS year where they try to add some bulk to him so he could handle the Big 10 wear and tear.

I think I'd be OK with him taking a RS, if he was OK with it. I think I'd let him make the choice. I think they could put weight on him in 7 months though between lifting and diet I think you could add 15-20 lbs, but not sure how well he could maintain it through a season.

If they're going to move Turner back to QB then redshirting him would be a waste. He was a freshman this season and Taylor was a sophomore. If Turner redshirts in '12 that'll be Taylor's junior year. Then in '13 Turner will be a redshirt sophomore and Taylor will be a senior. For all intents and purposes that means that Turner wouldn't see the field until '14 when he was a junior. Then it usually takes a full year of starting and playing, making mistakes before an offense excels under a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th year starter at QB.
If they're going to move Turner back to QB then they need to not redshirt him and give him as many snaps as possible next season to make it: a) worthwhile, b) build experience so that if Taylor does get hurt and c) not have him waste two seasons of eligibility sitting on the bench.

If he gets moved, I would hope that it would be permanent. Too much potential talent to keep changing positions. It would set him, and potentially the Huskers back.

I'm just repeating what I'd read was a possibility.
I don't know if I like the idea of him adding 15-20 pounds though. Takes away the explosiveness that is important for him to have.
I like the idea of RS him if the alternative is him wasting away on the bench seeing 0 snaps all year.

Good point, JM, a RS would probably be worthless. I think we should have him in a Kerry Meier (KU), or Ryan Tannehill type role where he's a WR and also our 2nd QB. If he beat out Taylor obviously he'd wouldn't be a WR. We need him with more touches, I think if he picked up the O he could be better than Taylor, and would have a higher ceiling, but that's JMO.

RST said he was seeing some QB reps during bowl practice and is expected to get more looks come spring. But, if we aren't focused on giving Armstrong all the reps he can get to push or surpass TM, then I think we are crazy. He has some of the best tools we have seen for a QB (true dual threat) and is a winner.

Funny you should mention his footwork. I was talking to a buddy of mine who played QB at the college level (not this level) and he said changing the footwork of a QB is tough. Usually once they have established their footwork it's that way for life (which is developed very young). Very tough to correct permanently. Said it could be done but would take a pro QB a couple years to do so and they can practice more than college kids can. And even if it could be done, it's very easy if under pressure that they fall back into that bad footwork.

I agree with Suh on this one. At this point in his career it will be hard to completely overhaul his footwork and delivery. Too many years of bad habits built up. You just hope the player is good enough that the flaws in their mechanics don't inhibit their effectiveness.

Not so sure about that. I would be absolutely shocked if Martinez doesn't start every game the next two years. Hypothetically, if we moved Jamal to QB and he didn't win the job, would you have him back up TMart for two years and then only potentially start one year? With Carnes still here to be the backup, to me you absolutely redshirt Jamal. After that, he serves one year as Taylor's top backup, which is more than sufficient to get him ready to challenge for the starting job as a junior. If Jamal then beats out Armstrong his junior year, we have a two-year starter.
Not redshirting him absolutely will have him waste two seasons on the bench. Given our history of substitutions, do you honestly think our #2 guy will get significant snaps next year?
