GO BIG RED!

« on: January 06, 2012, 02:39:10 PM »

Many are wondering about Corey Raymond since since yesterday rumors started being floated about him possibly "moving on". Since new threads have been started more than once I decided to check with my main source (usually if anything is going on he would contact me, since he didn't I figured nothing was).

Sounds like they aren't happy with some of the things he said to the media about the talent of our secondary after the bowl game. What I was told was, "We wouldn't stop him from interviewing elsewhere but he isn't being forced out."

So it sounds like what those spreading rumors were hearing was that they (probably Bo and JP, maybe even TO) weren't happy with the things he said and immediately concluded his was a gonner. Not saying he may not leave but at this point nothing is actually happening per my source.

Just thought I would post this to help let everyone know what actually is going on. More to follow if anything comes my way and/or if any other reliable insiders have anything else to offer.

Thanks!

Just seems odd to keep a guy on staff that you are now apparently lukewarm about.  I wouldn't do that with my job if at all possible.

Thanks for the info , Bry.  Any idea why Raymond was popping off? Is there a clash of philosophy with Bo or JP? Are the players resisting his coaching?

I've been thinking about this a bit.  I agree with Corey Raymond, but I don't think it's something a coach says publicly.  He should not have said that we have less talent, even though it is true.  That's something to be discussed and addressed internally, not in the media.  That said, I like his high expectations and the fact that he obviously wants to compete at the highest level.  I would think this is something Bo could address with Corey and get things patched up quickly and move on to preparing for 2012.  We don't need another coaching change.

Sam McKewon's article
http://www.omaha.com/article/20120104/BIGRED/701049807

Quote
Secondary coach Corey Raymond may crave more talent, as hinted in an interview.

"Just be honest," he said in reference to NU and South Carolina's athletes. "Look at them, look at us. It's pretty obvious."

I can definitely see Bo and TO being offended by that commentary.  It's like he's throwing in the towel.

I would think he only said it publicly because he was frustrated at being ignored when it was discussed internally.

Seriously?  Ignored???  The Truth??

So Raymond says publicly - "hey - we don't have enough talent - we can't handle other teams receivers due to our talent - look at them! - look at us!  They are much more talented than us!" - that's a direct slap in the face to the existing coaching staff who recruitied those players.  It's a direct slap in the face to the kids currently on the team.  So maybe Raymond did articulate this to Bo after he first arrived - so what?  What can you do about it during the year?  Sneak in some bigger faster DB robots somehow?  Nothing can be done at that pont but coach your players up.

Also keep in mind, that this is the same coach who changed the approach of the DB's from the previous coaching - telling them to be technicque focused - finesse players - shying completely away from the physical nature used the previous 3 years - Only to be nudged aside mid-season by none other than Bo himself to get the physical nature of play back in the D-backfield again.

Then after a crushing loss where his DB's got worked, he says that to the press - Bo's favorite people nonetheless?...Yeah - I can see Bo being pissed - and frankly, so should we be.

I didn't like this hire from the beginning and even though what he said may have been the truth, would Marvin Sanders say the same thing if he was still the coach this year?

This issue does not paint a picture that sells Nebraska football.  We looked bad in the bowl game... and now we have an assistant coach in hot or warm water with his boss.  Disturbing.
