That Osborne wouldn't comment on the state of the basketball program.  It was at the end of the Mike Fox article today.

Reading the tea leaves, if things get really ugly, Doc won't be breaking in the new arena.  In my opinion, Osborne really wants Doc to have the opportunity but if the team continues to melt down ala the end of the BC era in football, a change will have to be made.

what's he supposed to say? if he says, "everything's fine" he looks like a doofus. if he rips into it, he looks like a jerk. it's a no-win situation. there's no need to assess the state of the program after 3 games against top 25 teams. tom's too smart to play their games. he knows doc's in a tough situation with the schedule he starts with and the injuries he's taken on. he's not gonna throw him under the bus in the first week of january. i know it's fun to play the sky is falling game and laugh at how awful the basketball team is. but there's a long way to go.

I guess it's what we have come to expect from TO. He is always real careful not to hang his coaches out to dry. Heck, he didn't even do that with Callahan and he had legit reasons to.

The standard AD line is that we'll wait till after the season to evaluate the state of the program.  It's not fun at all to play the "sky is falling game".  That means things are going very poorly, and I cheer for the Huskers very hard in every sport.  On the bright side, the guys showed a spark today against Illinois today, playing very good D.  Hopefully that translates into a "W" in the next game or two.

yeah, they've got another winnable one wednesday, then it's right back into the fray for a stretch. after that, things should settle in a little bit.

Sheesh I looked at their conference schedule today....they'll be lucky to be 1-7 at the end of the 1st 8 conference games.  I see them only beating PSU.

If we don't beat PSU I am afraid that an O-Fer conference record is quite plausible.

I'm not sure why Nebraska can't seem to find an excellent men's basketball coach.

I'm not sure why Nebraska can't seem to find an excellent men's basketball coach.

I don't think it has been a matter of finding them as much as it has been of finding the kind of commitment to success in basketball that would attract them, then going all in on that commitment by paying them.

With the new facilities, step 1 is well under way.  Assuming there is a coaching change, we will see if step 2 will become a reality.  If it does, NU will finally find out if they can achieve any sustained success in Men's Basketball.

If there is one thing that I've learned by being around as long as I have it's that, as a fan, I'm unforgivably, matter-of-factly, boringly.......average. The good side to this is that what I like and dislike, 95% of the other fans do also.

I have tried my darnest to find a reason to believe, but I'm running out of ammo. Snapper is right.....we are getting facilities and I know for a fact that if we win....the fans will come. It's time to make this program become a factor. What that is going to take from here on out, I don't know, but the reasons are wearing thin, I want a program that I can be proud of and have interest in. It's a long time from football season to baseball season. TO needs to find something to hold my interest........me and about 95% of the other fans.

On ESPN back in the early part of the '11 college football season the show "The Experts" talked about recruiting and how the NCAA is getting proactive in outlawing these "middle men" in college football.  Bryce Brown, that RB out of Kansas, had a guy who acted as his agent.  Anyway, the guys on the show said that college basketball was literally overrun with these middle men and if you wanted to sign the top shelf basketball prospects you invariably must deal with these semi-pro agents.

Is that why Nebraska can't ever seem to land any of these types of prospects?

I think that is part of it.  I've seen that mentioned more than once by folks generally considered to be "close to the program".  But I don't think it is close to being the whole story.  If we still can't get any after we have the top shelf facilities, and a top-level coach, then I'll start to wonder.
