Ron Kellogg III, this guy has the size to be a QB, so what's his deal is he just not picking up the system, I mean IMO it can't be to hard to pick up, kind of a coaching thing? Just curious as to why no one talks about him?

Not sure why he doesn't get in... other than we not winning by a large enough margin to play the scrubs much. If the answer is... he doesn't grasp the offense enough to play, well, that's odd. We'd have to be the only CFB team in the country who had two backup QB's who can't figure out the offense.

From my understanding Neither Carnes nor Kellogg know the system very well. Which is why Carnes saw very limited time and Kellogg saw no time I believe. Not sure if this is a coaching issue or an individual issue.

Is it fair to say that if, after a year in the system, a player doesn't get it, they should be shown the door?
(Assuming they've been given proper opportunity to learn - and realizing that never seeing the playing field doesn't help matters).

At some point when guys at a certain position can't even sniff the field because they apparently can't get it together enough to even put their uniforms on correctly, the coaching at that position becomes suspect. Either we're not putting enough of a priority on recruiting guys smart enough or with high enough football IQs to get it or we're not doing enough to get these kids up to speed and ready to go once they get here. Either way, the folks on the staff responsible for recruiting and developing QBs need to significantly up their game....because they're just not getting the job done.

Thinking back to the recent past, the play book was way to big and way too complicated with Callahan. Watson allegedly put it on a Slim Fast diet, but it was still too big and complicated. Now it seems like Goldilocks has found a play book that's just right and has some very tasty plays in it, but the QBs with only one exception aren't capable of grasping it. That can only mean that our QB recruits are dumber than those at other schools or our coaches aren't providing adequate teaching. If our play book is "just right" what other reasons (excuses) are there?
I really don't mean to be a smart a** on this, but the reason that our backup QBs aren't being given playing time is because they can't grasp the play book is getting very old and is no longer an acceptable reason. If there's a problem, FIX IT!

tfree,
We said essentially the same thing, but in different ways. I didn't copy your post. I just took a long time to compose mine and it was posted significantly after yours.

Maybe if the press could watch practices, this std line from the coaches would not be acceptable.

You can bet we dont know the rest of the story and yes, the staff is responsible player development. What I find particularly galling is that if T mart gets hurt, they will throw out that excuse and say, ___________ (fill in the blanks) is ready to play.

Or is it because we are afraid that if we give someone else a shot, and playing time, that Martinez would throw a tizzy and opt for transfer. I always wondered that scenario a bit, and thought, maybe he has something on Pelini, and that is why he gets most of the playing time. IDK just food for thought.

If that were the case I would let him transfer. I don't feel that's the situation at all. Bo wants to win. Why would he intentionally keep himself from looking good by winning games conference titles and perhaps a National Title if he thought someone behind TM could get the job done? Just doesn't make any sense. And no he has nothing on BO. Why would Taylor do that? I know he's not real mature but even he wants to win championships.

I sat in the Devaney and watched his Dad score like 44 on the Huskers one night. Maybe he should have played hoops. If he has a pulse he could play for Sadler.
Can't believe it is that they can't pick up the system. Even if they only know some of the plays, the defense doesn't know which they are. The backups would get some snaps if the coaches wanted them to. If only 1 of the qb's can pick up the system, it is time to simplify it.

He may not be "real mature" but apparently is much smarter than the other QB's. He is the only man on the planet that can grasp the NU offensive playbook!
