Look at all the Huskers playing in NFL like Helu and others and say we do not get talent. Helu was not used properly by Watson and the NFL realized his potential.

Heck rivals rated Dennard a 5.7 3 star and Prince a 5.6 3 star.  Prince was a 1st round pick and Dennard will be a 1st round pick.

Prince was a 3 star wide receiver coming out of high school if I remember correctly.  He didn't switch to DB until Coach Pelini got ahold of him.  If that's not player development, I don't know what is.  So much of the the success of a program can be based on timing as well.  I always felt that if we could have somehow combined the 2008 offense with the 2009 defense, Bo may have had a national championship caliber team.

Absolutely correct on Prince.  I agree 100% that is big time player development.

I agree as well if we had the 2008 offense to compliment our 2009 National Championship Defense we not only would've won the Big 12 and gone undefeated, we probably would've played for and possibly won the National Title.  Or heck if even Joe Ganz had another year of eligibility in 2009 I fully believe this scenario as well.

No kidding?  Well, that's cool.  Either way, he's one heck of an athlete.

Honestly...I didn't see it either man, but he surprised me. He really stepped up and has been playing well.

I always thought (and there are posts in my history to confirm this) Helu was 1st round caliber based on measurables alone.

6'0", 220 pounds, with legitimate 4.4 speed.  How he slipped to the 4th round is beyond me.

He was dinged up a bit during his college career.  Nebraska hasn't produced a solid NFL RB in a while.  We don't run a NFL style offense.  I was surprised he dropped to the 4th round too.

He was also a DB in high school, so it wasn't a matter of doing something he was totally unfamiliar with. He's a kid I was always impressed with, not only as an athlete, but as a quality individual.

Prince was listed as an "athlete" coming out of high school (by the recruiting sites).  Cally had him on offense and Bo moved him to defense.

Step away from the computer.......Helu gained 3200 yards in his career....He also shared time with T rex in his senior year.  The trouble with Helu, was not watson, it was Callahan who insisted on using Marlon Lucky instead of Helu.

The part in bold is the truth.  Many of us saw that Helu was the better back and called for him over ML5.  But Cally kept going with his "5-star back".  Lucky was a great receiver but a terrible RB.  Helu was the full package and faster too.  Everything pointed to Helu being a solid NFL RB.

The discussion about talent has been specific to this year's defense and how we stacked up against the elite defenses out their this year, more specifically Alabama's defense.  I don't recall anyone saying we have never had talent at NU.

Heck, Cally played Lucky over everyone. Remember a guy named Brandon Jackson? Even though he was the only one steadily making plays from the RB position, Cally would sit him and play Lucky....... Inconceivable.
