After watching Devaney and Osborne not be so star struck over the years and still excel, I'm in the camp that the star system is overrated. I've watched Boise State overachieve the past decade with a strong walkon program and after their success all of the sudden they are receiving stars that were missed before. The star system has too much politics and named recognition going for it to be the end all. Coaching trumps the so called experts. To many intangibles are not in the star equation. Character and intellect just a couple of examples
What's the rule, and what's the exception. I'm in the camp that if you routinely recruit a class that's ranked in the top ten, year in and year out, you will probably be ranked in the top 10... certainly ranked in the top 25.
There's really no valid statistical correlation.
There's a bigger correlation between finishing in the top ten and cheating.
