is a 16 team playoff.

The plus-one makes me gag. It's worse than kissing your sister. It's like french kissing your ugly cousin.

I part company with Dr. Tom on this one.

I'd prefer the old bowl system to a plus one. The popularity contest with the pollsters is superior, IMHO, to a plus-one.

What of the Rebellion? If the Rebels have obtained a complete technical readout of this station, it is possible, however unlikely, they might find a weakness and exploit it.

I would agree with you.  I would rather have uniform changes than a 16 team playoff.   Cheesy  Seriously.

I wouldn't mind going back to the old system either.  I don't like the plus one, I don't like the playoff.  They diminish the regular season, IMO.  Every game should be important.  If you go to a playoff, you will eventually have teams that "take the week off" at the end of the season, because they are already in.  I like the bowls.  I like the discussion on who should be National Champs.  It makes NCAA football unique.  It makes every game important.  What is wrong with that?

The plus 1 would be better than the current system.  I think they should make a rule that you HAVE  to win your conference to be one of the 4 teams selected.

Absolutely!  A team must win their conference to play for the title.

Another thread here got me thinking about this.  And since it's the off season, what the hell...

There is talk of a 4-team playoff (the Plus one model).  I wish they'd go one more round and make it 8 teams.  I'd love to see the conference winners from the big boy conferences in an 8-team playoff.  That would be an incredible annual spectacle!

Quite honestly, I'm beginning to find the bowls a little boring.  This year, even though there were some competitive games, it just didn't seem to matter much.  I had a hard time getting into it like I usually do.  And I'm a college football freak!  I think we need something to make it more interesting.  I'm not as into pro football as I am into college football, but I find the pro playoffs much more interesting than the college bowl season.  That tells me something isn't right!

If I were the king of college football, I'd set up a post season that included the top 32 teams playing in four 8-team playoffs.    First round would be played at the highest seeded team's home stadium.  The second round would be played in one of the bowl sites. Each playoff would end in one of the major bowl games.

Championship Playoff: Conference winners from the ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, Pac 12, SEC and two at large bids which would go to ND if ranked in the top 8 and/or the top ranked conference winners from C-USA, MAC, WAC, M-West, and Sun Belt.  Championship played in the (for example) Rose Bowl (rotate the championship bowl each year).

Fiesta Bowl Playoff The 8 highest ranked teams not in the Championship playoff

Sugar Bowl Playoff The 8 highest ranked teams not in the Championship playoff or the Fiesta Bowl Playoff

Orange Bowl Playoff The 8 highest ranked teams not in the Championship playoff, Fiesta Bowl Playoff, or the Sugar Bowl Playoff

At least this way there is some drama, and we don't have that month-long layover in December.  Who says we can't play college football in December!?!  This crap about classes and finals is bull.  Every other sport has playoffs, and other CBF divisions have a playoff.  There's no reason we can't have a playoff.  And from a financial standpoint, this would be a HUGE money maker.  They could split the money among each school in each playoff tier and everyone would come out on top.

I did the math, and this would mean 7 games per playoff tier (4 round 1, 2 round 2, and 1 in the final), so overall we'd have 28 games and 32 teams involved.  28 games that matter!  How cool would that be?!

Thoughts?

Troublemaker.  You get a 4 game playoff and sometime in the future you go to eight teams, until you get to NCAA numbers of 64.  We could call it December madness.

I think the trouble is, no one is defining the plus one.  My idea calls for the bowls to play the part, Fiesta, Rose, Orange, and Sugar playing the top 4 teams. Then the winnner plays the extra game to determine the NC.  simple.  It would work well 99 percnet of the time.

IDK about the locations.  You are talking about fans for the NC teams, paying for a "bowl" ticket, then a NC tickets.  It would be pricey for the consumer.  I think you have seeds and top seed gets homefield until the NC.  JMO.

The wise sages (e$pn) tell us the 2nd in the SEC is better n anything else in all the other conferences. Maybe we could take seconds too.  Matter of fact, what the heck will they do about Conference CG's if they adopt a playoff?  Its hardly fair for several teams to play an extra game.

I have no problem with playoffs...
It's just that playoffs, even though they are a change from the current system, will not solve what the real issue is: legitimate teams being excluded, and illegit teams getting in.

That's a great point.  Have the first two rounds at the highest seeds' home stadiums and then the championships at the bowl sites.  That would work much better for the fans. I guess the other option would be to play round one at the home sites and then play the final two rounds at the bowl site.  Make it a week long event.  Weekend #1 the final four teams play two games at the Bowl site, then the following week the final two teams play in the championship.  Fans could make a full week vacation out of it.  It'd be a helluva lot of fun!   Grin

And by tickets I meant, tickets, travel and lodging at several different locations, not just the tickets.  I think you understood what I was getting at though.

Because the season is it's own playoff.  If you don't win your conference then you have been "knocked out" of the run for the championship.  You had your chance, and lost.  Win your conference for a chance at the title.

Yep.  Overall cost of attendance for the fan.  Definitely has to be considered.

I think my problem with bowl season is ESPN.  What percent of games were on ESPN?  Spread out the love a little bit, but that's probably for another discussion...
