Probably more wishful thinking than anything else...but stranger things have happened.

I'd love to see some of the dead weight leave...one way or another.

Okafor was interviewed a while back and was applying for med school and said he'd skip his 5th yr if accepted so I assume he'll go that route which is great.  The other is said to be Lester Ward.  Don't know any details.

New roster out, neither Ward or Okafor are on it.

Doesn't change our recruiting class size, however.

OK everyone, let's keep our eye on the ball. Two student athletes are graduating. One is applying for med school. While we might feel they were a waste production wise on the field, they did the program proud with their academic achievements. That can't be all bad, and they very well might become boosters of the future.

I'm like everyone else I want players, but I try and keep myself grounded with the knowledge that these are student athletes. They are also future citizens and bearers of our society. Two extremes....one a mediocre athlete that pays taxes, contributes to society, the university, and athletic programs after graduation..or a phenom on the field, leads us to a national championship, and then ends up in jail and we get to pay for his keep the rest of his like.

OK.....I'm being facetious, and nothing says being one excludes being the other, but I'm just saying that while we are glad "dead weight" is leaving, we might be also glad that some real producers might be entering the next phase of life.....in no small part to our athletic program. Wink

Well, if Okafor wants to go to med school, that's awesome for him.  Maybe someday Dr. Okafor will donate a large chunk of change to the AD.

In a 105 man roster every young man has a role, some play, some have high GPA's yet never play much, some are scout team warriors and so on.....  Football is the ultimate team sport and these two men contributed to the overall success of the program by being a teammate!

Good post. I go back and forth on this type of issue though. Much as I like to see Husker players excel in school, they're primarily recruited to contribute on the field.

Believe it or not it is the other way around, without a 2.0 they won't see the locker room let alone see the field.  Remember they are student athletes and you have to have grades, attend class before you play.
