And cheer as the winners go by
Day by day, we get better and better.

 Huh

Okay, they (the Tampa Bay front office people) do know that Oregon's style of offense will fail in the NFL...right?

Oregon's offense is so effective in college due to: a) the limited practice time opposing teams have and b) glaring deficiencies in talent in the opposing defenses linebackers and secondary.  However, at the next level those deficiencies in speed and talent don't exist.

If this happens what'll be the over / under on Chip Kelly getting fired?

I'm a Tampa fan and have mixed feelings about this. The Glazer boys have run the team into the ground since they took over after their father Malcolm had a stroke. They have no business running a football organization.

I like Kelly quite a bit. I'm just among the skeptics as to whether his system can work in the pros...or be tweaked enough to make it work. Spurrier looked like a freaking genius in the college ranks, only to be depantsed in the NFL.

But with Fisher being off the market and Schottenheimer too old to be more than a short term fix, the market is pretty sparse. So maybe it makes sense to roll the dice and give it a shot. One reassuring thing is that I don't think Kelly takes the job unless the Glazers agree to open up the checkbook. As they have a well-deserved reputation for being incredibly cheap, that at least is reassuring.

If he takes it, it means that the investigations of all of Oregon's alleged recruiting violations are leading somewhere.

Does it really matter, the NCAA is sans nugs now after the Auburn fiasco IMO

It would makes Darron Thomas's decision to turn pro a bit more easier to swallow.

Agreed, especially when you consider their QB who won't be drafted very high if at all, announced his departure as well.

I was thinking the same thing Solly.  If he does leave I wonder if it's because of possible sanctions coming that he knows will happen.

Oh, well, it isn't like he'd play as well in the NFL, where nearly every team wears a uniform that is pretty consistent with the basic design elements, used through decades, with no chrome, no hundreds of potential combinations, etc.

One shudders to think how severely this will impact his level of play at the next level.  Wink

Really, sanctions are the only way this makes sense for Kelly. He's walking away from what has become a consistent BCS contender with amazing facilities and Nike money into a roster full of quitters in the toughest division in the NFL. I expect a Charles Robinson article on Oregon in the coming weeks.

But....but.....but.....He will have the mighty Josh Freeman as his franchise QB.   Roll Eyes

Not a truer statement could be said tfree!  Live in Tampa and follow the Bucs...but the last 2 years have been almost unbearable.  Yes, I know they went 10-6 last year, but I was screaming from the rooftops down year that they were frauds...this year, after the Glazers and GM Mark Dominik threw out all the veteran leadership (especially Rudd), they were exposed for exactly that.

The Glazers are more worried about the kazillion dollar soccer team across the pond than they are the Bucs.  And the 40,000 empty seats every Sunday is living proof of that!

Yeah ESPN just reported he's turned down the Tampa Bay offer.
