A question for the winter lull

I remember back to that game where Miami handed the Huskers their hat on their way back to Lincoln. Big physical receivers elbowing and pushing the smaller Nebraska cornerbacks and knocking them off stride. They separated quickly and the refs ignored all the Miami hand checking back then. Now it is common for most cornerbacks and nickle backs to rough up the receivers. Even much further than five yards. Just a simple elbow can knock a corner off stride enough that the receiver can move away and set sail deep.
On the Heard Rumor thread one member said that Heard wasn't the big long armed receiver that Bo had been looking for. That made me think.
If you were to start a team at any level what would your first priority be? A quarterback? Maybe a top running back? A defensive run stopper in the middle of your defensive line? Maybe a speed rusher on the edge. I'm sure that there would be many answers depending on your preference for defense or offense. Or your type of scheme you would use. Left tackle maybe if you were pass oriented. A big pulling guard if you were into running the ball. The Heard move from running back to cornerback wasn't earth moving. Nebraska looking for a couple of lockdown guys to replace last years starter Prince Amukamara and this years corner Alfonso Dennard. Nebraska with Burkhead returning and two high octane running backs waiting in the wings made for a bit of a log jam..
For Heard it could prove to be a smart move. The NFL covets those lockdown corners and it seems that runningback don't last as long before their shelf life runs out. Still if you were going to start up a franchise, what would your first and second choice be? Seems to me that two lockdown corners would be a great place to begin. So my first pick would be a cornerback. Seems that the game today is moving to pass first and the old mainstay of defense wins championships still lingers in the air. Then maybe your quarterback as a second priority. Third would be that big fat nose guard to plug the middle. So what would it be? A Suh, A Prince, a Manning?
What would be your first priority?

Interior linemen on both sides of the ball.
For an OL I'd recruit mostly centers and have them fill out the other positions.
For the DL, I'd look for big run stuffing DTs and make LB and Ss into DEs if I had to to get speed off the edge.

All the wins and losses are fully on the QB's shoulders. Just ask Big Sky!

For me it's a toss-up between a great QB and a dominant defensive tackle. Either can dominate and really set the tone on his side of the ball. And having to choose between a couple of kids like Andrew Luck and Ndamukong Suh to build a team around would be a close call.

All starts on the line, both sides.
I'd look first for DL to always keep me in games, next for OL to grind out the victories and wear down the other side.
QB then lockdown CB would be next.

winner. games are won and lost in the trenches and defense wins championships so I'd start with a great d-line. then a great o-line.

QBs put fannies in the seats. You have to be able to pay the bills.

Look at Miami 01 to prove if you have a smart QB surrounded by great players, you are going to win ball games.

And the Buckeyes the following year. Same deal.

One of two players on offense who touches the ball on every down. If he's good, you're likely to be good. If he ain't, you're likely to be ain't.

An All-American runningback takes pressure off weak QBs and OLs.
