Here's an awesome story that's been buried by pretty much every other recruiting story that's come out this year. Lots of respect for Dave Bailiff

Rice keeps commitment.

Great story.  Unfortunately instances like this are the rare exception and not the rule though.

Is it an academic scholarship or football scholarship the kid is receiving? As cool of a story as this is, I don't know whether it is smart if it is a football scholarship he would be using up. The circumstance is unfortunate, but the kid wouldn't be keeping his end of the bargain. The trade is education for playing football. He isn't playing. Good for Rice though, for not turning their back on him.

He's getting an athletic scholarship that Rice will convert to a medical hardship scholarship immediately. They've already had Rice patrons - not just athletics boosters - step up to fund this scholarship for his entire academic career at Rice.

The coach and his staff are donors to this fund.

Terrific story.

Absolutely. This story needs to get out there as much as possible. Lord knows we've got enough bad stories about recruiting around the country floating around.

Kudos to the folks at Rice for doing a good thing.
