Did he or did he not blame the atmosphere and social media as a "valid reason" his team hasn't handled somethings well?  Simple question.

From the story...

Quote
Pelini said his Huskers haven't handled success very well. And he brought up what he thinks is a valid reason: the atmosphere around the program, including social media. Pelini said the fans and media ride the roller coaster after big wins or losses. His players tend to pick up on it.

1.  Pelini said the Huskers haven't handled success very well = coaches and players fault.

2.  Atmosphere around the program = fans expectations...they haven't changed since TO was here.

3.  Social media = In today's day and age every player has a cell phone, most have twitter, are on face book, myspace and other such sites.  And social media can work both ways.

4.  Roller coaster = elation over wins and near depression over losses.

All of these points are 100% true and none of them even remotely hint that he's "blaming the fans..." for anything.

It seems to me that you're trying to label a horse as a unicorn here.

I'm not going to argue with you bucause it's pointless.

How you can completely not read the "valid reason" for the team not handling things well is beyond my limited intelligence.

I'm sorry phil...you're right.  I should know better than to have my own take or opinion on anything.  In the future, before I post, I'll make sure to ask you what and how I should think.

It's interesting how we seem to tolerate comments made by some more than others. We are jumping all over Bo for saying that social media can play a part in the roller coaster of emotions that a team can go through. Is he wrong? Don't we see social media starting a million rumors a day, be it political scandels, Hollywood break ups or what player is signing with what team? It's part of the scenery now and it does make things a little tougher to temper than the days that we only saw things printed in a news paper.

It was only a couple of weeks ago some were jumping on Pelini for mentioning the airport situation and the difficulty that can cause getting recruits and parents in and out for visits. I wish I still had the article, but I distinctly remember Tom and possibly Frank making those same comments. It had to do with trying to get a player in to visit for a Saturday game when flights really didn't allow for them to make the trip and enjoy that experience. It's been said before, and it's totally accurate. It's part of the challenges we deal with.

Somedays I feel like the nitpicking goes too far, just like I felt it did with Tom, Frank and Bill. We truly need to remember the grind these guys have to deal with, nice salary or not.

Jen please drop the victim attitude.  It's wearing thin.  You can post what you like as long as it's civil and folks can read and respond to your posts if they want.  Just don't get bent out of shape when they don't cow down to your opinion.  You aren't always right.  Regardless if you think you are.  Nor am I and I'll man up when I've been proven wrong.   Wink

Were people really jumping on Bo for the airport thing?  I could have easily missed it, but that's ridiculous if they were.

The airport thing is an issue.  Bo and staff should have several private planes, IMO.

He described the fan support as "phenomenal", and declared "I love it here". What exactly are you looking for?

It's too easy to become complacent with players failing where they cannot afford to fail.  I fear a slippery slope has been approached and once you slip there are big ramifications.  TO never failed to present the public image that players succeed or get replaced.  Bo doesn't have the same tact.  More often than not the most successful coaches share the trait TO presented.  It gives players a sense of urgency to cut out the bulls*** and just get it done.

I remember hearing a story about either Aaron Graham or Aaron Taylor that relates to this.  Taylor/Graham said he got into a game against some flunky opponent as a 2nd or 3rd stringer... Nebraska was up 50 something to zero late in the 4th quarter.  Nebraska was driving... inside the other team's 10 yard line and on a 3rd and short for a first down... Taylor/Graham moved prior to the snap.  Nebraska was moved back 5 yards... off the field came Taylor/Graham.  Osborne met him at the sidelines and said "look, I put you in the game to perform.  If you can't do that, I'll get someone else who can."

I loved that Osborne was that way... you perform or your axx is off the field.  And that Osborne could find things wrong with the team's performance after we drilled someone 70 - 0.

TO was so rare as a HC.  He was an amazing motivator and could plan for games weeks away while managing the current on-going game.

Hopefully Bo gets some of TO's scheming/planning.  There is a great opportunity for that to happen and if TO stays for a few more years I think more will rub off on Bo.

Bo did that and got crucified here for possibly crushing a freshman's delicate psyche.  He can't win no matter what he does...unless it's win every game.

I think his delivery was a little bit more animated than TO. Just sayin'  Cheesy I don't know why you say he can't win. It's not like the whole world hates him. He's a little rough around the edges but I like him. To be fair though, he does give some of his critics some material to work with.

1.  He called Martinez "a young guy."  Really?  Young?  He has been in the program three years now!  How were guys like Turner Gill, Tommie Frazier, Scott Frost, Eric Crouch, etc. performing after they had been in the program three years?

Gill, Frazier, Scott, and Crouch ran the same offense in each of their first three years.
