Although looking back now those SP & Billy C years seem like some foreign out of body experience!

Hooked on Huskers

« Reply #196 on: August 30, 2010, 01:46:40 PM »

I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, only two hundred miles north, but I never followed Huskers at all.  At the time, I was a Notre Dame fan.  After high school, I enlisted Air Force career service, the first and only permanent post was Hastings Nebraska, small radar site. I still didn't care about 'Huskers followers for the first several years until .......

.......KHAS radio station door prize, this gift was a free ticket at Memorial Stadium, NU vs OklaSt game (Thurman Thomas era).  BTW, I almost had given away for free ticket but I decided to use it.  Before the game I was shocked, outstanding !!!!  ......., friendly BS bars, tailgates, mini parade including marching band, of course outside the stadium.  At the gametime, it was amazing, you know, loud without vulger voices, great cheerleaders and ATMOSPHERE, whoa.  From now on, I was hooked on the Huskers FOREVER.

After my Air Force career ended, I moved to Norman OK (job thing).  I tried to convert from NU fan to OU fan but I can't ...... the main thing, completely different atmosphere, trust me. In other words, half the OU fans in Owens Field (Gaylord Stadium) are decent, equal to NU fans, but the other half was drunks, wantabee Texas rednecks, and the language, expertise vulger words. However, very few hillbillies (callahan quote was wrong).

I've lived in Ohio all my life I love my Buckeyes and always will, so you might ask what I'm doing on a Huskers fan site. Well I wanted to stop by and from the bottom of my heart Welcome the great Nebraska Corn Huskers to the Big Ten! I really mean it. I love The Huskers coming to the Big Ten, it's awesome! I am not a Nebraska fan, but I've always respected your Program and thought of it as first class. I've also always thought the Big 12 treated you as a second class citizen. I think it sucks  the way they treat such a storied program. I love the idea of having you in the Big Ten, look at the tradition and the power this conference is going to have, it's just awesome! Forget Notre Shame! We need a team that's good now not 20 years ago, that's what you bring to the table. Don't get me wrong I'm going to route against you every year when you play my Buckeyes, but I really truly do believe it's awesome to have you, I think this is where you belong. Plus you'll get to see how much fun it is slapping Michigan around every year. ( Shared national title my eye, you would have kicked the crap out of them in 97)
I've found myself keeping an eye on your games this year and routing for you like your already one of our brothers. We all know your the real Big 12 champs last year. So GO HUSKERS! Look forward to seeing you on the field next year and it truly is a Honor to have you.

Thanks for the intro and no doubt welcome. Love interacting with "good" fans of other teams whenever we can. This sport is incredible and one of the best things about is meeting and getting to know fans from other teams. I say "good" because we all know that isn't always the case.

Thanks for the welcome to the Big Ten and boy are we looking forward to it. We know it won't be easy but it shouldn't be. It will make the conference much better and maybe someday soon we won't have to continually hear about the SEC (insert puke here).

Take care and look forward to hearing more about you and your team as time goes by.

thanks buckeye4ever.

and maybe I could suggest to BHF, should we create a Big10 forum?  Encourage some of our future brother-in-laws to join here?

Anyone notice that next year the Big Ten will have 12 teams and the Big 12 will have ten teams, strange huh. Not that I want to trade names. Were the Big Ten and always should be. I'm thinking after your gone Texas and Ok. won't be enough to keep the Conference from slowly becoming the Big East of the west.

I have been registered since 2007, but don't post much.  I use this board as a tool to learn from the numerous knowledgeable posters that are here.  I check out the board several times a day.  I have been a Husker fan since the first National championships when I was 9 years old.  My father would have the radio going as soon as the broadcast began.  I remember listening to Lyle Bremser as the Huskers tore through the old Big Eight conference.  If course, you could listen to many others back in those days, including Joe Patrick.  I respect Oklahoma, despise K-sucks, and hate Colorado.  I was a member of BRB, but was banned.  Boy, was that a blessing.  Bunch of ignorant, cry baby piss-ants on that board. Don't argue with them or you are banned.  I was glad to read several of the true Husker fans came to this board when kicked off there. Any way, glad to be here, and Go Big Red!

Ha! The guys that started and run BRB are mostly people that were banned here or simply left here because they weren't allowed to run rough shot over this board. Some were not too bad of guys but once they started BRB they became, in short, complete losers. Pretty low brow site from what I have seen!

Hi.  My names Corey and I was born in Beatrice, NE in '85 and lived there until '98 when my parents got a job in Colorado... yea, I know.  I joined the Navy after highschool and I've been stationed in San Diego, CA for the last 6 years.  Its been a little rough following NU football in between deployments but I'm on shore duty and I have no excuses not to watch EVERY game thats televised.

I saw the OP and laughed at the "influx" of new members joining BigHuskerFan.com because I found this site just to read what other NU fans were saying about that Texas game on Saturday.  To say the least, I was pissed about the officiating (among other things) but I like the site and thought I'd get a screen name.

Thanks for setting up a good forum and see everyone around the site.

I was a lurker on Rivals using my brothers account.  Since he canceled his subscription and that board got worse and worse I decided to switch.  I had a couple of friends mention this board.

I am a lifelong Husker fan that lives right in the heart of Longhorn country (Austin).  I wear my gear loud and proud down here.

GBR!
