Author Topic: You're the AD at State U.......Pick Your Coach  (Read 3060 times)

Since this is the season for coaching changes, lets say that you are the AD at State U., and you could bring in any coach, who would you hire?  To make it interesting, pick two.....a current HC and someone with no HC experience.

I would take Steve Spurrier, because at a big 12 school he could trot out his "cant spell citrus without UT!" barb against my favorite team...and someone with no HC experience I would have would be Bud Foster from VT, because no matter how bad their offense is, that D keeps them in anything.

Current head coach: Rich Rodriguez...love the offense...love the passion....he can develop players....
Non current head coach: Will Muschamp....defense is amazing....this guy can get his players fired up

Jim Tressel - winner at every level, won at tOSU with and without his "own" players, 5 BCS bowls in 7 years, three for the title, the guy can flat out coach

Lane Kiffin - I would like to see what this guy can do with his own staff in the college ranks, Al Davis will burn him out in 2-3 more years

A current HC I would choose is Jim Leavitt from USF, he built that program from the bottom up.

The choice of a person with no HC experience would be more difficult, but I would choose Mike Singletary.

Solid choices one both of them.

I stayed away from Kelly because he seems to be a very hot name right now and I wanted to go with someone that is a proven program builder.

As for Muschamp, BleedsHuskerRed already named him and the reason why I went with a different name.

Can't argue with what you said.

I especially agree with your comment about Lane, Al Davis is the biggest problem with the Raiders and they need to get rid of him if they want to succeed, but since I'm a Chiefs fan, I hope he stays around for a long time.  Tongue

Don't know about RR's passion, he just left his alma matter after going 60-26 in 7 seasons, including this year minus the bowl game, finishing no worse than 2nd with the exception of his first year at WVU , to go to Michigan.


Muschamp is a solid choice, especially if you want to build a good defensive unit.

If you are a Chief's fan, what's your take on Carl Peterson?  My wife is from KC so I have sympathy for her, but I think Peterson should go.  FWIW.

With HC experience - Pete Carroll

With no HC experience - Bo Pelini if that counts, if not him probably Brent Venables from Oklahoma or Will Muschamp from Auburn.

If you are a Chief's fan, what's your take on Carl Peterson?  My wife is from KC so I have sympathy for her, but I think Peterson should go.  FWIW.


If things don't change, Carl could become the KC version of Al.
