agreed it will take a miracle to get to the ncaas....this team is playing decent enough basketball right now. Steve Harley has definitely stepped up
This team has some quality wins (KSU, TAMU, Oregon) but definitely some horrible losses (Colorado   and Western Kentucky)....and some games they definitely should have won (Mizzou at home, ISU on the road and NU prolly should have won against Baylor at home.
We'll see how good those redshirted players really are...doc is a keeper...

NU is now 93rd in the RPI--up 50 spots in the last 10 days--probably need to move up another 50 spots to have a shot--a win over Texas would help a lot

Exactly.  A 96 RPI wont even get you in the NIT this year (now that the NCAA runs it).  A 3-3 record against the top 50 is pretty good.  If we can go 3-1 down the stretch (a big if) that could get our RPI into the 50's or 60's.  Looking at our schedule the losses arent that bad (WKU is a 20 win team with an RPI in the 50's).  A 3-1 record down the stretch and a semi final showing in the conf tourney would put us on the bubble because of our late season flury.  Realisticly I think we go 2-2 down the stretch and lose in the quarters or semi's in the tourney.  That should bump our RPI high enough for the NIT.  That would be no slap in t he face to this team who seems to be playing up to their potential as much as anyone in the country.

Next year should be fun but dont expect this team to sneek up on anyone int he big 12.  The jury is out.  Doc can coach and Nebraska is for real!

CU was a bad loss but Western Kentucky was more of a disappointment than a bad loss.  They may make the tourney this season and that is not a bad loss at all.

ok how about this. if NU would have won the CU game, the ISU game and the Western Kentucky game, would we be in the dance right now???

how about with those 3 wins, going 2-2 and winning 1-2 in the conference tourney

woulda--shoulda--coulda--won't help with the committee--if we can find a way to beat Texas and OSU (and CU, but that should be automatic) and have a good showing in the conf tourney, we have a shot--odds are against us, but who would have thought we would beat KSUcks, aTm and Mobilehoma in back to back games--we are much closer to the NCAAs now than we were 10 days ago

Probably.  CU and ISU would've done nothing for our SOS or RPI, but W. Kent. is probably tourney bound and would've counted for a good win.  If we had won those we would be 20-9 and fourth in the conference heading into a stretch where we should win one, possibly two before the conference tournament.  We would've had a pretty good shot.

for the ncaa -

the magic combo is 20 total wins, 10 conference wins. (or at least it had been. ksu was the first major conf. team to hit those last year and not get in. still, fairly good percentage w/ those numbers). nebraska can't get the 10 conf wins, which would probably be pretty important considering NU's mostly weak non-conf.

if they make a run in the conf tourney, they might help themselves, but i still don't see them making it unless they win that and get the auto bid. if they play well and lose in the title game, they might be right on the edge. but i think it would just give them a higher seed for the NIT.

when you look at the 20/10 numbers, and think they could go 2-1 the last week and finish 8-8. then you look back with the 10 win goal in mind and the CU/MU/Baylor/ISU games really start to hurt. even win 2 out of those very winnable games, and you're looking at the magic 20/10 wins.

I would have said there was a slight chance to make the tourney but now it is likely the NIT. We had a nice win streek going but in ended today as we were pretty much dominated today on the road although we made a few comebacks but couldn't get it to a reasonable defecit.

I'd like to see Nebraska in the College Basketball Invitational, just because it's new and/or exciting. Well maybe not exciting, but it is new. I won't complain about the NIT though. I'll keel over if we make the NCAA.

Does anyone know how they determine who would get a home bid for the NIT or the CBI? Home record perhaps?

as far as the NIT goes it is about Ca$h:
A)do you have a home court and
B) how many people can you draw for the battle of 65th place?

considering CU has home court conflict with the opening round of the ncaa's, a nu-cu first round looks very likely in Lincoln....... unless lightning strikes and either win their conf tourney.

CBI -  i believe their is a buy in of $60K, I heard the promoter on 590 and he came right out and said its not for every school depending on what they can draw for butts in seats.

it'll be interesting to see what the cbi is. i don't think nu should be in it this year. doesn't seem like it would generate much interest at all. and i can't see how many people anywhere would care about a 3rd postseason tournament. its getting worse than bowl games. the nit has at least some credibility, and i think it runs better since the ncaa took it over. i'd certainly love to go see an NIT game at the bob.
