Remade = Jurassic Park.  The book is great, the movie sucked badly.

I wouldn't say the movie sucked badly (I thought it was pretty good)... but the book was much, much better. But, really, isn't that the case with most book to film adaptations?

You're right, but I was a huge Anthony fan and loved that book, then the movie came out and I was dejected (I was young and naive).

I like Michael Crichton's books.  Jurassic Park was Ok.  What do you think the chances of seeing "State of Fear" being put on film?  Al Gore and his disciples would blow a gasket.

I'd also love to see just about anything from Dan Simmons put on film.  He has a good vampire book, but "The Terror" has good potential.

Oops, I was getting my authors confused.  Jurassic Park was a very good book (at least to a mid-teen).

I haven't read State of Fear yet, I kind of got out of his books after Disclosure.  Not sure why, just did.

I'm still waiting for a faithful adaption of "Dracula" that doesn't involve some sort of romantic BS subplot.

Dracula IS NOT Rhett Butler.  i wish Hollywood would stop portraying him as such!

Apart from that, I'm eagerly awaiting an adaption of "Full Moon."  Supposedly Mike Myers will be playing Keith Moon (drummer for The Who).

BRA... what did you think of the Francis Ford Coppola "Dracula" movie that was done in the early 90s?  Had Keanu Reeves in it.

Some older Piers Anthony books would make good movies (Xanth for example)

I like some of Anne McCaffries (sp?) books as well.

I think the Xanth series would be pretty hard to make into a movie, with all of the puns and crazy stuff.

Anne McCaffrey's Pern books would make good movies.

There was talk around 5 years ago on doing a DragonRiders of Pern TV series.  Believe the production had sets ready to go in New Mexico... and the series fell apart.  I emailed the son? of Anne McCaffrey about the status of the series a couple years ago... he said they were waiting to do a big budget movie of the book.

A&E network is redoing the Andromeda Strain as a mini-series.  Should air later this year.

"Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown.  A precursor to the "Davinci Code" would be nice to see.  Wasn't impressed with the Davinci Code movie though.

Believe this book is being done as a movie.  Set for a 2009 release.  Tom Hanks and Ron Howard are attached to it..
because they had so much success with the da vinci code
Angels and Demons was a sweet book...agreed on it being better than the da vinci code...
i'd like to see a faithful version of I am legend, the big nowhere by james ellroy, a good It by stephen king, same goes for the stand, ronin by frank miller (graphic novel), the dark knight returns (graphic novel), fahrenheit 451, choke by Chuck Palahniuk....lotta good books out there...not sure i wanna see all of them fraked up by hollywood...
Is atlas shrugged really worth it Solly? (btw it is being made into a movie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_Shrugged_%28film%29)

I thought it was a nice try.  The casting of Gary Oldman was AWESOME, but unfortunately they fell into the same trap of making Dracula into a romantic lead character.

I know why they did it (box office draw), but if someone wants to add romance to that story, they should focus on Jonathan and Mina.

Basically, Dracula is a manipulative b*stard, yet he's always portrayed as a romantic lead who elicits sympathy from the audience by going after his "lost love."

I really wonder how Bram Stoker would feel about his character being portrayed like this considering he based Dracula on an actor he absolutely hated.

A mid 70's adaptation with Frank Langella (sp) as Dracula is much better than Coppola's IMO.  It still has the romantic interest that you don't like but it is not played up nearly as bad as the more recent offering.  I do like Oldman as Dracula, but Keanu "Ted" Reeves is terrible and miss cast.   Winona Rider is also pretty bad in the movie.

I liked Gary Oldman in the film too.  Visually... thought it was the best Dracula film since Bela Lugosi started it all.

Just about any of Vince Flynn's books (Mitch Rapp series).  They are kind of a cross between Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum (Bourne series).

Excellent choice...love the Flynn books.

Would add any of the Jack Higgins' (Sean Dillon series)...they did make an adaptation of one of the early ones and it was not very good (made for TV I believe)

Or John Sandford's (Prey series with Lucas Davenport)...once again they tried to make one for TV but the Davenport character was played by a black actor and I don't even think it was based in Minneapolis....but Davenport was an ex-hockey player in college living in Minnesota in the books.

Would not mind seeing a true adaptation of the Bourne books by robert Ludlum...loved the movies but other then the plot line about having amnesia they are not close to being what Ludlum wrote.

I think it could be, if done correctly with good talent and direction - a BIG "if", I know! (I'm dubious of the abilities of the cast outlined at that link to accomplish it). It would almost have to be done in two or even three parts.

I'd want to see it done as a period piece, though, still centered on the railroad and steel industries of the 40s. Too many stories lose their allure when they're "updated" to modern times.
