Good stuff ATX!

...did you just use a Will Smith movie for an inspirational quote? In that case, "Let me tell you how bad a day you're having: right now you're jacking a couple of cops."

Yep. I wanted to use about 3 others, but I would've had a nice talk with a Mod about the language.

That's not a half-bad idea for a thread in the Culture forum...a thread where you respond with nothing but movie quotes. Hmm..... Huh

Was that Bill Pullman from Independence Day, when they were going to have it out with the aliens?

I think that anyone who believes the the US is making it's own so to say prison camps is crazy. You all need to take a dose of common sense and understand it is a write for the 31E job in the Army they are the guards at places like fort Leavenworth prison and down in Cuba.

I served with the 403rd MP/PW Camp in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm.  The unit was based out of Omaha, and is now the 500th MP Brigade under the US Army Reserve.  The sole purpose of the unit was to be a P.O.W. camp during war.

All you conspiracy nutjobs need to get a freaking clue.  Maybe if you ever served your country you might have one.

KCB as a MP I agree this wacko's have no clue what they are even talking about. Looks to me like the only decent thing about any of them is that they are at least NU fans  Grin

KC I am grateful for your service but I respectfully disagree with you.  Just because I am a "civilian" does not mean that I still can't see what is happening in the world around me.  I have friends who are military and even ex-intelligence and they do not think that such things are beyond the realm of possibility.  Our very own TNT just retired from the military and he has been promoting the Oath Keepers  organization which is made up of service members who pledge the following:

1. We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.

2. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people

3. We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to military tribunal.

4. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state.

5. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.

6. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.

7. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.

8. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control."

9. We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies.

10.We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

Obviously it is not just the "civilians" who are concerned about the preservation of our freedoms and the direction that our government is headed in.

BTW KBR was awarded $385 million to build detention centers in America under the guise of illegal immigration, however it does also state they may be used in the event of a national emergency.

Quote
KBR awarded Homeland Security contract worth up to $385M

KBR, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton Co., said Tuesday it has been awarded a contingency contract from the Department of Homeland Security to supports its Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities in the event of an emergency. The maximum total value of the contract is $385 million and consists of a 1-year base period with four 1-year options. KBR held the previous ICE contract from 2000 through 2005. The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to expand existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs, KBR said. The contract may also provide migrant detention support to other government organizations in the event of an immigration emergency, as well as the development of a plan to react to a national emergency, such as a natural disaster, the company said.

Since when has the Army had prisons?

(hint:  a long time.  When the government was usurping power from the people in 1874.)

United States Disciplinary Barracks, Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas
Army Regional Confinement Facility, Fort Carson, Fort Carson, Colorado
Army Regional Confinement Facility, Fort Lewis, Fort Lewis, Washington
Army Regional Confinement Facility Europe, Germany, U.S. Army Garrison Mannheim, Mannheim, Germany
Army Regional Confinement Facility, Fort Knox, Fort Knox, Kentucky
Army Regional Confinement Facility, Fort Sill, Fort Sill, Oklahoma
Army Regional Confinement Facility, Camp Humphreys, Camp Humphreys, USFK

...to name a few.

I am concerned too, but not because of the Army recruiting for "internment" cops.  MPs have had that role for years.

The MP's roles have bee evolving over the year even the short time that I was a MP we were called everything from glorified infantry to armored taxi cab service.  But believe me these questions you ask of are talked about on a frequent basis.  Up until the day I retired we were talking about what we can and can not do.  We do not want to cross the lines of jurisdiction nor do we want to cross the line of responsibility.  So this is not like it has not been discussed becasue it has at great lengths many of our senior NCO's and officers are aware of the possible abuse of power.  Un uniform we maybe but first and foremost we are citizens and with that we are greatly concerned about where that line is drawn at.
