Caniglia's closed 4 years ago - Mr C's closed 3 years ago - although the Caniglia family still owns Piccolo's and the Venice Inn.

I never understood why people go to Joe Tess and automatically order crap....err carp.  Yeah, if it's breaded right even a bullhead can taste okay.  I'll order the catfish or walleye at Joe Tess or Catfish Lake before I order carp as they are a better tasting fish.

Mahogany Prime, although not completely unique to omaha, is somewhere where we eat once a month.  Johnny's Italian Steakhouse is another one of our favorites.  Spezia's is underrated I think.  Not a lot of people say great things about it, but I've always had a pretty good meal there.  Gorat's is okay as well.  Bronco's hits the spot every now and then for some fast food.

The 801 Chophouse at the Paxton is overrated.  I really like the natural element of their steaks, but I dislike several other sides and appetizers.  For $100-$150, you should get a better overall meal.  Sullivan's is good, but I think they have went downhill a bit the past few years.  Drover doesn't do it for me....at all.  Caniglia's is sh!tty and you couldn't pay me to eat there again.

I've always wanted to go to Brother Sebastian's.  I've made reservations twice and both times we had to cancel.  I've heard a lot of good things about it and will try it out in the next month or two.

I need to get to Mahogany Prime. I keep hearing good things about it. I think you'll love Brother Sebastian's. I highly recommend the Chateaubriand. It's a complete dinner for two and easily the best piece of meat I've ever eaten.

You'll love Mahogany, I was there again last night.  Bone-in Filet and bone-in NY strip are amazing.  Love the lobster cargo too!

If you are in the mood for ethnic food, try  Japuir in Rockbrook Village.  Very good Indian food IMHO.  It is also a brew pub with some unique flavors of beers--my wife is partial to the Jalapeno Ale!

Jaipur's not bad.  Another good Indian restaurant is Tanduri Fusion on 176th and Center - next to Bakers.  Very good indeed.

A great place for pretty authentic Mexican is Guaca Maya. They have a great lunch buffet. Just don't go there after dark...it's in a rough area.

Guaca Maya is pretty good.  There's a few good Mexican places to eat in this town.

I think my favorite thing to eat in this town might be the homemade chips and salsa (the red batch) at Jacobos, a Mexican grocer.  They got a lot of other good food behind the counter as well, however the chips and salsa are the realness.  On second thought, you might not want to even try it as every other salsa will suck for the rest of your life.  If anyone goes, be sure to bring cash.

Drover's is very good.  Their signature steak in the Whiskey Steak.  They are pricey but very good.

IIRC

Dinkers - Best Burgers around I-480 I-80 Split going north, take 480 then the first exit.
Beertopia 38th ish and Farnam, good bars and a great place to get beer, includes the German Bar (Huber Hause) and The Moon
Mama's Pizza was good on levenworth i think
Also good pizza joint around 72nd and Pacific, can't think of the name
Shucks is a good oyster bar, way out west like 160s and Center
California Taco - 32 or 34th and California, just 2 blocks west of CUMC, GREAT TACOS
Upstream Microbrewery has gone downhill IMO, the one way out west is better, often has good music
I think Mr. Toads is a good downtown bar to hang out at, nice atmosphere

Wow, how quickly one forgets in just a year and a half,  enjoy!

Umm....not so much, Stv!  Besides, I live on the edge of LaVista....not omaha.   Smiley

Of course I enjoy some stuff in the omaha area.  I have been here a few years now and plan on building a house LaVista.  We both got good jobs and I got a few logs in the fire here as well.  Like it or not, I'm gonna be in the omaha area for a while (but at least it's on the edge of LaVista).  Eventually, I will be custom building our dream house back home and living the rest of my life there.

Dead on here, Jacobos chips and salsa is by far the best I've had.  Tough not to eat an entire pint of that at once...

Mahogany is great, by pricey.

As for Brother Sebastian's, I've eaten there a number of times, and the atmosphere is great, but I think that the food is highly overrated.  I'm a filet guy, and I've had a better filet at Outback Steakhouse. I'd go to the Drover over Sebastians.

And Joe Tess',  yuck! I used to eat there alot as a kid, and the last time I ate there, about 15 years ago, it was gross.

Take a date and try the Chateaubriand....it's amazing.
