Well bowz, I have always loved many kinds of music and trying to whittle it down to ten songs is really impossible for me.  I have wore out many an Abraxis device.  Vinyl, tapes, CDs and I still love those tunes.  All of them.  I have as much love for country songs.  I sat on my dads shoulders and seen Elvis and Johnny Cash live in the fifties.  I sat in the front row watching the Alman brothers.  Front row watching REO and Elton John.  Front row watching the Beach boys, Alabama and Hank Jr.  I love the Blues and that includes many of the old stuff.  I could write several top tens depending on my mood.  I sang in church and all the way into high school. I can play the mouth harp pretty well that I taught myself during years of driving trains on the road.  Music is one of my passions. I could talk music all day long.

I couldn't keep it to only 10 songs:

1.  Boys of Summer - Don Henley
(The perfect song, from the first note to the last.  And has there ever been a better use of irony in a song than "Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac"?)

2.  Eiledon - Big Country

3.  Wooden Ships - Crosby, Still and Nash

4.  Even Now - The Call
(A spooky, but uplifting, vision of Christian (and Jewish) persecution in the Last Days)

5.  Jungleland - Bruce Springsteen
(The Clarence Clemons saxophone solo is my all-time favorite instrumental piece)

6.  Winterblue - Heather Nova

7.  You Don't Get Much - BoDeans

8.  Rings - Toad The Wet Sprocket

9.  Minutes to Memories - John Mellencamp
(Lots of good lines in this song:  "An honest man's pillow is his piece of mind."  "Suck it up and tough it out and be the best you can.")

10.  Remembrance Day - Big Country

11.  High Summer - Van Morrison

12.  Restless Natives - Big Country
(A song about Scottish pride and independence.  Has a touch of "There is no Place Like Nebraska" in it with lines such as "I will be with them, in the summer sun and the winter snow, they will come and clouds will go, and show that we are proud again."  Avoid the music video version that includes annoying clips from the movie of the same name - - which was gawdawful by the way.)

13.  Middletown Dreams - Rush

14.  Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison
(The original is much better, IMO, than the Rod Stewart version that became famous.  Although I do give Rod Stewart credit for saying he thinks this is the best love song ever written.)

15.  In A Big Country - Big Country
(Great song, but one of the worst music videos of all time.)

16.  Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull

17.  Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon

18.  Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers

19.  If I had a Rocket Launcher - Bruce Cockburn

20.  Things Have Changed - Bob Dylan

According to research cited in "The Sociopath Next Door," one in every 25 people is a sociopath.  This means they have no conscience and no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt or remorse.  They can literally do anything at all without feeling guilty.  You undoubtedly know at least one.

The Look - Roxette

Good call on that one, bowz.  I am not really a pop music fan, but I loved the album that contained that song.  Hey, whatever happened to the gal who was the singer?  When that album came out she was a thin, good-looking Swedish blonde in a little black dress.  I saw her a few years ago in a recent music video and she looked like an old battleaxe, although I couldn't tell for sure if that was done in order to fit the song or if she really had just aged very badly.

Ten of my favorite, in no paticular order:

Blue in Green - Miles Davis
All Along the Watchtower (Originally by Dylan, but covered best by Jimi Hendrix)
What I'd Say - Ray Charles
No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley
Superstition (Both Stevie Wonder and Stevie Ray Vaughan versions)
Get Up - James Brown
Fight the Power - Public Enemy
The Thrill is Gone - BB King
Cult of Personality - Living Color
Crossroads - (Robert Johnson, Cream, and live Clapton versions)

Since the list above is dominated by older songs and african americans,  I had to create another one for equal opportunity purposes:

Black Magic Woman - Santana
Riding the Storm Out / 157 Riverside Avenue - REO Speedwagon
Jessica - Allman Brothers
2112 - Rush (All of side 1 - they have to be heard together! )
Frankenstein - Johnny Winter
Silent Lucidity - Queensryche
Brain Damage / Eclipse - Pink Floyd (these songs should always be played together)
Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden
Eine Kliene Natchmusik - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes

Solid list Solly, but you gotta drop Hollywood Nights for Turn the Page!  The "Omaha" reference makes Turn the Page my favorite of his many great songs.
