Bobby would probably want Tom to hire his son Pat.

I'd pass on that then. I don't much care and never really have cared for Pat Knight.

A question....and not a leading one....just an honest question. What will it take to recruit to NU? And which one of the above( or anywhere else) would be able to make this happen? You can then put him on top of my list.

Convince one great player to play at Nebraska. Then let the dominoes fall. Think what Beasley did for KSU.

McDermott is what he is, he's a good mid-major coach.  He's not a bad recruiter either.  He will do fine at Creighton, he belongs in a conference like the MVC, that's where he does well.  There's nothing wrong with that either.

Tfree, you act like it was just a bad "fit".  He just didn't a poor job at Iowa State, it was far beyond poor considering the NBA talent he had.  Dude, I know it's hard for a Creighton fan to admit, but he was beyond awful.  Iowa State is a MUCH better gig than Nebraska.  Just why in the hell would McDermott be a better "fit" at Nebraska?  Sober up, kid.

This from the guy who at every turn belittles Omaha and everythig associated with Omaha, including Creighton...yet lives here? You're telling me to sober up?  Smiley

There are any number of reasons a coach can be good at one job and bad at another. In some cases, a guy's just meant to coach at a particular level. In others, guys get a job they're not ready for at a certain point in their career. In still others, a particular guy just doesn't fit in a certain place. The reasons for success and failure are varied. And the fact that a guy didn't make a go of it at a certain spot at one point in his career doesn't mean he couldn't later. Coaches learn, develop and evolve, just like anyone else.

I thought the OWH did a great job today with their spread on CU... the timeline, the atmosphere on campus at the time. Ras got the guy he wanted and Greg McD got the job he wanted, a step up from ISU. the most telling sentence about his feelings on ISU... But McDermott wasn't winning in Ames. And the pressure to compete with Big 12 schools like Kansas and Texas had prompted him to recruit players he didn't enjoy coaching..... sums it up.

I'm not going to argue with you guys today, I'm really not. I don't have the time or energy to stomp out troll fires today and I'm certainly not going to throw gasoline on it either. If you guys believe some of the things you are saying, then there's nothing I can say or do to make you deviate from whatever universe your thought process comes from.

Umm, can someone explain how going from coaching at Iowa State to Creighton is considered a "step up?"

Considering the MVC traditionally only sends 1 and on ocassion 2 teams to the dance versus half the Big 12; i'd say its a better job because you dont have to deal with multiple ranked conference teams, but its not really a "step up.

Define "step up."

Like I said, coaching at Creighton is easier than ISU (to put it mildly), but thats hardly grounds for calling it a "step up."

I've gotta agree.  How is CU a step-up from ISU?  The only benefit I see is they are in a weaker conference.

Reread the thread kid. Who brought McDermott's name up in the first place? Who made a point of trashing him and the entire Missouri Valley Conference? Who makes a point of dogging on Creighton, Omaha and all things Omaha at every turn? Now who's the "troll" again?

And given Nebraska's sustained commitment to crappy basketball, I find the idea that Nebraska fans would be trashing anything Creighton or MVC at this point more than a little silly. You just fired your coach. You have the ignominious distinction of being one of three D-I teams without a tourney win ever. You are and should be worried about your ability to get a guy who can spell the word "basketball" to come to Lincoln to coach for one of the worst programs in the history of the sport. And you're still running your mouth?  Wink

Hey, tune into the NCAA selection show later today and watch to see where Creighton's playing....and for a reminder where Nebraska isn't.

One of three D1 programs without an NCAA tourney win, huh. Yeah, okay.

Let's get back on topic. My point was, in my opinion, I don't think there are any current MVC coaches who can win at Nebraska outside of Marshall, who obviously won't come here. Groce and Weber are who I want, and those are both realistic options. If those don't pan out, I'd be willing to look at other options.
