There isn't a single coach in the MVC right now outside of Marshall that can win at this level and that includes McDermott. McKenna would be a horrible hire, I'd rather get on my knees and beg Barry Collier to come back before I'd ever ask McKenna to coach. I wouldn't consider Mike Davis unless it was a last resort kind of ordeal. I do agree Waylon, some Nebraska fans need a reality check on just how desirable this job is, even with top notch facilities.

Waylon, why on earth would Nebraska even WANT McDermott after he tanked the way he did at Iowa State. The point I was tryong to make is there isn't a single coach in the MVC who could win at Nebraska. You are acting like we would want that BCS failure here to make your self feel better, lol. You are right about him not wanting to come here,  why would he even take a job he knows he would fail at when he has it made in a lesser conference. Marshall could win here but you are right, that is not going to happen. McKenna is just a no for me, I will get into that when I have more time.

Anything ever associated with Creighton is tainted in UNK's eyes. His hatred of CU effects his thinking sometimes, well actually always.  Wink

Altman will likely here from TO, if only to test the water. It has been a destination job of his for years although that ship may have sailed. They are good friends from what I hear. Always liked McKenna myself, he is a damn good assistant and if I remember right did well as a head coach in the CBA. Just not sure if he is head coach material and a good enough recruiter for the B1G. Maybe he is??

OWH mentions both Altman and Spinelli as likely candidates although I am not sold on Spinelli myself but he does have the recruiting ability we need.

Based on McDermott's success everywhere he has been he is intriguing but won't be a candidate for many reasons, most his own.

Indiana assistant Steve McClain, a finalist for the Penn State job previously, may be a possibility according to the OWH. Very good recruiter (Indiana's best) and knows Nebraska and Iowa well.

If anything, we need a coach who bring in talent. Hopefully TO uses someone to help him search and guide him in the right direction.

Funny, you throw out Greg McD's name first.  We know you don't think he would work, its a mute point, he does not want it anyway. you just felt like getting your hate on with the other two posts?? the Creighton guys are trolling?? really? Mac is not going to take the step down to NU, he just took the step up from Iowa State to get to a better place, he is happy at CU, CU is happy with him, its widely known. CU is the better job of the three and that is the part of the equation myopic husker fans don't get. The most average basketball fans know working in the top half of the MVC (currently 8th) is a far far better gig than working in the bottom half of the BCS confs. you may be able to lure one (names stated earlier) of them with the right total package but the coaches working at the top two programs of the MVC are basically not going to happen unless its a top 3 or 4 gigs in a bcs conf.

I'm not going to argue with you guys today, I'm really not. I don't have the time or energy to stomp out troll fires today and I'm certainly not going to throw gasoline on it either. If you guys believe some of the things you are saying, then there's nothing I can say or do to make you deviate from whatever universe your thought process comes from.

Reread the thread kid. Who brought McDermott's name up in the first place? Who made a point of trashing him and the entire Missouri Valley Conference? Who makes a point of dogging on Creighton, Omaha and all things Omaha at every turn? Now who's the "troll" again?

And given Nebraska's sustained commitment to crappy basketball, I find the idea that Nebraska fans would be trashing anything Creighton or MVC at this point more than a little silly. You just fired your coach. You have the ignominious distinction of being one of three D-I teams without a tourney win ever. You are and should be worried about your ability to get a guy who can spell the word "basketball" to come to Lincoln to coach for one of the worst programs in the history of the sport. And you're still running your mouth?  Wink

Hey, tune into the NCAA selection show later today and watch to see where Creighton's playing....and for a reminder where Nebraska isn't.
The best jobs are in the best conferences. You wave a winning program in the Big 10, you have a better job than in the MVC. It is that simple. I don't see Creighton on tv that much. The strength of the league dictates the job. The only exception is when the school gives you little support. Then the job becomes suspect. NU makes a lot of money with athletics and could provide support to the basketball coach, they just haven't wanted to go that route full tilt. If they are willing to support the new coach like the big boys do, the only thing that keeps someone from coming here is, a good job at a power conference already, or his perception of his own ability. Assuming all of the resources necessary will be at the coach's disposal and he doesn't want our job, it is because he doesn't believe he can do it. Great facilities, fans, hungry ones,  who will come out to watch a winner and the only thing to keep them away is that they don't think they are up to the challenge.

I would suggest to anybody who liked those threads pull the guts of them over here...

What I will argue however is Creighton is successful only because of the conference they play in.  That's the bottom line.

I'm only saying what I'm saying because Creighton fans (on a f-in Husker board), find the need to rub their success in Nebraska fans faces.

I'm glad people who live in Omaha have something to do in the winter time other than pretend not to be Nebraska fans until football starts up again.

But like I said, don't make Creighton out to be more than they are.

You're not some "national power" on par with Duke, Kansas, Michigan State, or every National Champion since 1990 (last mid-major to win a NC).

Pound your chest all you want about having a better program than Nebraska (which says oh so much), but it still doesn't change the fact that its easier to win in the Missouri Valley Conference than the Big 12 or Big 10.

And like I said, what do you expect when you're on a message board, supposedly dedicated to the University of Nebraska and its athletic program?

How did I know that was coming? And most of us CU fans have stated we are fans of both teams. Why do some get so bent out of shape over Creighton all the time? I never brought them up, just chimed in where they were brought up, eh-em bashed. And based on your rationale, no one should ever speak of other teams they are fans of here. All those with usernames that represent teams other than Nebraska should be forced to change their names (UNK, HuskAndPack, SteelHusker, etc.)? And all non-Nebraska avatars should go too. Can I mention I also love the KC Royals? Ooops! The fact is it is Creighton and some people, most not from Omaha or have friends who graduated CU, or whatever have this deep hatred for that school/team/fanbase.

And I have yet to see one person suggest CU was on par with the teams you name. I understand who they are, the conference they are in, so on and so forth. And I am sure most do. But just because we are from Omaha and have followed CU all our lives (that is me) doesn't mean we think they are NC caliber when you look at the cream of the crop in D1. Basketball is much different than football. A sport where teams from mid-majors really do have a chance. Sure a little one, but a chance. And CU has had a quality program for a long-long time. It gets plenty of respect from the experts. But just because some CU fans (students no doubt) don't get it doesn't mean the rest of the fanbase don't either.

What I find interesting is the hatred some Husker fans have towards CU. Just the mention of them makes people go all haywire! I am sure there is a reason, it just isn't something I have ran into. I guess it is like hating Texas or Notre Dame in football? But someone mentions Creighton, another one or two begin the bashing and those that are fans defend them. Been taking place here since I can remember. And for the record. My Husker gear is not put away. I wear it daily. No literally, daily. I have only owned one CU piece of clothing in my life, a sweatshirt that I don't even know where it is. When I buy gear for teams, it is 95% Nebraska and 5% KC Royals. Just sayin.

if you are a creighton fan, why are you pissed?  you should be happy that creighton will be beating nebraska for the next 5 years.  and no I will not join you.  creighton has been added to my hate list after seeing how they played against North Carolina.

honestly.... move this post to the all sports header. very out of line to bring in Creighton to this thread.

I have no problem with how CU played against the Heels.

Wragge's foul was a clean basketball foul, it is a shame Marshall landed wrong, it could cost them a NC. I don't see haw anybody could claim otherwise

as far as Gibbs foul on Henson I have maybe a harsh view... I expect this will go over like a fart in church but MY OPINION is: were Henson 100% healthy nobody has issue with the play before or after whistle. It is not Gibbs fault or CU's fault Henson chose to play, it actually seems like a grab at the spotlight from him, "look at me play hurt"  lots of pressure to play when your program has had the likes of Worthy and Jordan... he made the choice to play and if there is no problem were he 100% you cant have it claimed to be cheap, what does he want a "no contact" jersey? man up or shut up, he deserved the T.

the no call on Greg E I think was correct, those two were banging for several minutes before that, nobody in powder blue wants to talk about. Zeller had no issue with the no call either, he knew it was a flop. it was 60% shove, 40% flop. Zeller is a flop artist, don't believe me, goggle "Tyler Zeller Flops" and you will get a good laugh.

claim goon if you want but I would like to see more of that same toughness and better defense next year.

CU was outmanned but they did not quit, they just could not catch up, CU's two best players got theirs against very good players, they got stuffed by better players as well. The lack of toughness all year came back to bite them but I would not cry about wrong seed or tough draw, actually liked the draw by the time I watched some film on Bama... CU got to play two teams that would NEVER sign a home and home so I really liked the opportunity to play them. Next year looks good, I think there is a fire in their gut to work hard, the way this team gets along it will be self policed for their off season workouts. Love what CU has coming back and love what will be added from redshirt and new players, love the direction of the program, love next years schedule.

I don't think I will ever understand the massive hard-on some of you have for Creighton on a NEBRASKA CORNHUSKER message board.
