I still love Osborne, he's the greatest college football coach of all time. However, this is a pretty.....no REALLY stupid hire. Osborne doubled the buyout, fired the coach a year later, hired a worse coach for 1/2 a millions more than Doc got. This is a nightmare. Personally, I think it's time for Osborne to retire.
I do not support the hire at all. That said, IF it is true that Miles is the guy, then I support him 110%. I am a fan.

I agree with everything said here. Really disappointing if this is the move that is going to be made. I'll support him as coach, but I have my misgivings.

Should have given Doc a million to spend on a new staff.
Sorry husker fans, did all the assistant coaches from Duke or where ever all say they were not interested as well? I aint buying.
I think he went through the wish list and got so many "no, make that No Way, Make That NO Effin Way" that TO got scared.
Thanks for positive feed back about Creighton winning its first NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Thats the right line of thought!

I still don't believe Miles will get hired...I just don't. Tom Osborne won national championships, there is no way he's that stupid. I mean this would be beyond dumb. The entire college basketball world would be laughing at us.
I wouldn't say he's stupid, but why is anyone really surprised? Being one of the best HC's of all time doesn't mean you know jack about hiring good coaches.
I would be way more surprised if he actually opened up the wallet and paid to get a big time coach.
exactly.

IF this is the hire the Dr. Tom is now a senile old man who just sheet the bed and put NU basketball permanently 6 feet under. Creighton will win the national championship before NU is relavent again. Hey, go spend $200 million on new facilities and then get this guy? What a joke...
You all need to check yourselves. If he is the coach, I'm as underwhelmed as the rest of you, but to say it's because we wouldn't open the wallet to a big name coach, when you have absolutely no idea what happened with the process is insulting and uninformed.
From everything I have heard, we tried money-whipping bigger name coaches, but they wanted no part of Nebrasketball.
What is TO supposed to do, put a gun to the guy's head an make him sign
a contract?
For real, some of the ignorance shown by supposed fans is staggering.
I'd have no problem with naming the new arena after the coach, especially if it got us a bigger name. Shaka Smart Arena sounds good. Put it in the contract that if the guy lasts 10 years or more, his name stays. If he bolts sooner or gets fired, we can take it off. If someone lasts 10 years here, he would have been successful and probably as deserving as anyone to have his name on our basketball arena.
If we are getting Miles to get Crawford, why not just hire Crawford. Less chance of the stud recruiter bailing for someplace better if he is HC. If we hire Miles and Crawford takes another job someplace else next week, what do we have? I hope this works out. Character is nice, but winning is better.

Maybe this will be a good hire. However seeing what Miles has done at CSu doesn't excite me. There are others on here with more bball knowledge than me, I'll respect their opinions and agree with them.
At least my Tarheels have Roy Williams.

Nevermind. Done deal. 5 years, 1.4 mil per. Be shocked if we see the NCAA tourney in the next 4 years. Year 5? Maybe.
Sad. Very sad!

You dudes are crazy. He hasn't even been introduced, let alone coaches a game. How many of you have even watched a single half of one of his games? Honestly, knowing who turned the job down, who is a realistic candidate you wanted to see? Again, now one knows anything about this guy. Except that he just took his team to an at-large berth. Somewhere we haven't been since we were all a lot younger.

That's nice.
How long you think until we actually make some noise in the tourney? (YOu know, like win a game, or two, or three)
If our measuring stick is making it to the tournament, then I don't understand why they even bother with it at all.
I don't know anything about the guy, but lets just say the enthusiasm isn't exactly infectious. I would have been more excited if they'd hired Spinelli, and I wasn't exactly anxious for that to happen.

Maybe not all is lost. His assistant hires will be more important initially than his early recruits. Collier was good at Butler (at least in part) because of his assistant coaches. This is where I'll do a 180......NOW SHOW ME THE MONEY. The money for assistants that is. Give Tim the money to get some really good ones....ones that are paid enough that they won't run off without at least thinking about it. Ones that can really recruit.
The quality of head coaches in any sport is often determine by 1) their players and 2) their assistants. Surround yourself with people who are good at what you're not.....then let them do their jobs.
