I still don't believe Miles will get hired...I just don't. Tom Osborne won national championships, there is no way he's that stupid. I mean this would be beyond dumb. The entire college basketball world would be laughing at us.
I wouldn't say he's stupid, but why is anyone really surprised? Being one of the best HC's of all time doesn't mean you know jack about hiring good coaches.
I would be way more surprised if he actually opened up the wallet and paid to get a big time coach.

Doubling a coaches salary buyout a year before you fire him, paying that, and then hiring an equal X's and O's guy and even a worse recruiter than Doc is, in fact, stupid. I would say that's almost the definition of stupidity.
I would take Miles over Sutton and Jeter IF he had a decent recruiting plan. That's IF. Yes, Coleman is a very good recruiter and may have a good player or two in his back pocket. Miles is not a strong recruiter though, which is why he's pulling kids out of Ralston and Ainsworth to play for him.....not Chicago.....Ralston and Ainsworth.

come on, guys. have you see the list of people who have turned us down? who is there left to woo? you know why they're not waiting for ohio to lose? because groce isn't coming here anyway. maybe you haven't noticed, but he's coaching in the sweet 16 tonight. with his entire roster intact for next year. he holds all the cards. i'm guessing "Nebraska" is not a card he's going to play this year or next year.
as for miles, is it a great hire? nobody knows. he certainly doesn't look overly qualified. but he does have a stud AAU recruiter on his staff right now. from chicago. i believe that meets some nice requirements. big ten country and AAU ties. go read his bio on the CSU website. he's put together some real nice AAU and HS programs in chicago.
but i think this is the reality check people need regarding Nebraska basketball. Roy Williams (or whoever) isn't coming here because you have money. Duke doesn't want to play us. It's not as easy as having money and making a phone call. it's a lot of work to build a program. and it doesn't look pretty when you start. as we've seen, even mid-level coaching candidates don't want to return the call right now.
back to miles. what will he bring? who knows. he did turn around a program from nothing. that's not easy, no matter where you are. he also doesn't have major college experience. he has what looks like a stud recruiter with him. you just don't know. i could certainly see it working out. it could also fail. nothing's guaranteed with a guy from this level. it doesn't make sense to proclaim it either way at this point. but the fact is this is the type of candidate Nebraska is going to pull in at this point.

I understand we are Nebraska, I fully get that. Miles would have took this job though no matter what. We should have drug it out a week and went a little bit deeper. I think we could have done a lot better. I would like to assume that Groce wasn't interested but do we know that for sure?
What to know about Miles. He did a complete rebuild job (and I'm talking COMPLETE) rebuild job at Colorado State. In the Mountain West too, it may not be the Big 10, but it's not exactly the MVC either. He also is a very likable guy, kind of quirky.

I think he's done a good job at CSU, but a 9-7 record in coference play isn't overwhemling.

He did have UNLV, new Mexico and SDSU in conference. I'm not too excited about this, but I have no say in it and as always, I'll blindly follow the team no matter it's direction.

The only part that bothers me is, he really can recruit the state of Nebraska!

IF this is the hire the Dr. Tom is now a senile old man who just sheet the bed and put NU basketball permanently 6 feet under. Creighton will win the national championship before NU is relavent again. Hey, go spend $200 million on new facilities and then get this guy? What a joke...

You all need to check yourselves. If he is the coach, I'm as underwhelmed as the rest of you, but to say it's because we wouldn't open the wallet to a big name coach, when you have absolutely no idea what happened with the process is insulting and uninformed.
From everything I have heard, we tried money-whipping bigger name coaches, but they wanted no part of Nebrasketball. What is TO supposed to do, put a gun to the guy's head an make him sign a contract?
For real, some of the ignorance shown by supposed fans is staggering.

We'll probably never know.
I don't know much about Miles. I hear he is a good coach. The problem is we had a good coach.......he just couldn't recruit. I just hope Mr Miles doesn't have the same weakness.

BS post. Disagree all you want but comments like this don't help your cause. I don't like the hire either but really, lighten up. Personal attacks on TO by calling him a senile old man who just sheet the bed is over the top.
