I'm Optimistic About Miles

Is it true we haven't won an NCAA tournament game since the 40's?
Joe Cipriano and Danny Nee never won one? Ouch!
Ok, here's my optimism. Miles is young, innovative, committed and talented. I believe he will recruit much better than anyone since Nee. He runs a motion offense which is coach speak for half court offense. He plays man to man D which is coach speak for aggressive. And the most important thing is timing. Nebraska has just made a huge investment in facilities, has entered the BIG and the fans are really hungry for success.
Miles said the turnaround will be led by the fans. Fan support improves performance. Performance improves recruiting. Recruiting wins games. Or something like that. Anyway he is going to challenge the fans to get animated. He wants the students to stand up at games. I'd like to see them stand up in class, but that's for another day.
I think he has a decent first year followed by a winning second year and an NCAA bid the third year. That would make him the most successful third year coach in Nebraska history. See? I'm optimistic.

it's my understanding we haven't won an ncaa tourny game EVER. Nebraska and Northwestern are the only 2 major conference teams with that distinction.

Hard to win a game when you never get to the dance.

This is true for the NCAA tourney. 0-6!

Part of the reason why Miles got the job is because he outlined a recruiting plan to Dr. Tom where he said NU would be dancing in 3-4 years.
Getting Coleman on staff is a major componet to that.

Well I hope it works otherwise we'll be right back where we are now.

We go to the dance in 3 years and win a game there then or in year 4. The drought is over! Northwestern now you suck all by yourselves!

Miles seems like a great guy. Articulate, good sense of humor, comes across as a really nice guy. As someone else noted, he is "one of us."
And I agree with that, he seems like the kind of guy that I can really relate to.
And therein lies the problem. I am a middle-aged white guy who grew up in the suburbs in the Midwest. I am not the demographic that he needs to be able to relate to.
I find that I do not have an affinity for just about every college basketball coach that is highly successful. They come across to me as snake-oil salesmen, or a-holes, or both. Miles seems like he is neither.
So, based on the Red Ghost Evaluation Method for determining whether or not a college basketball coach is going to be successful - - if I like the guy, he will not be successful; if I don't like the guy, he will most likely be successful
- - I am not optimistic about Miles.
But I also don't think Miles will be an epic failure. I think that most years we will finish around 8th to 10th in the conference, with maybe a chance to finish as high as 6th during a really good year. But I don't think he is someone who will permanently move the needle of Nebraska basketball.
In five, six or seven years, we will most likely be doing this again....looking for a new coach.

According to research cited in "The Sociopath Next Door," one in every 25 people is a sociopath. This means they have no conscience and no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt or remorse. They can literally do anything at all without feeling guilty. You undoubtedly know at least one.

If you're saying in a roundabout way that a white guy can't recruit African Americans, I would tend to agree with you in many cases. Ron "chin" Coleman, his ace recruiter, is African American. Hopefully, that covers this issue.

In an ironic way, I think he might actually do okay.
The reason why I say that is because I honestly dont think he will, but, I bought into the Collier hire AND WAY into the Doc hire, but cant seem to get on the Miles bandwagon...which means he's probably the guy after all.
