Sure, fans who travelled some distance were inconvienced and suffered financial expense.  Yes, we missed out on impressing some recruits.  As a fanbase, we'd been looking forward to this game for some time.  But, the bottom line is Dr. Tom and the athletic deparment were more concerned about everyone's safety than in playing the game.  Consider the uproar and consequences if the game went or or was delayed and people were injured or killed.  Who of you would want to be responsible for that?  Many players had committments for Sunday, so the game couldn't be rescheduled.

Amen brother.  If anything had happened to any of the fans it would have been disastrous for the University.

lol   players had something to do Sunday?     I doubt what ever it was would be more important than being at practice.

I'm sorry but while I agree with what you are saying from a high level viewpoint, completely canceling something that the fans look forward to every single year is uncalled for. Absolutely no excuse for not being able to reschedule this game. We have indoor facilities, right? That is just one of the many options we could have utilized. The kids have Sunday obligations? I went to a University with many highly recruited student athletes, they don't do anything during the week, much less a Sunday. We are paying their tuition to play football. their prior obligations for Sunday can be put on the back burner for a minute. They would likely not be at Nebraska if it wasn't for football.

Still think the people that bought tickets should get their money back.

I like baseball, but if you drove 7 hours to a football game and be told that the football ticket can be used as a GA to any baseball or softball game seems like a slap in the face.

I'm considering my ticket purchases a small $44 donation to the AD.  Doesn't bother me a bit.  But I'm not at all convinced they could not have played the game today.  Calling the game off yesterday was the right thing to do.  We had decided not to attend ourselves, deciding it was too much of a risk.  In those conditions, you never know when or where a tornado, hail storm, or lightning storm will pop up.  I made that decision for myself and my family.  It was a tough call but in the end it was the right thing to do, as it was for TO to make that call for the safety of everyone.  Tough call, but the right one.  But not playing the game today, I can't agree with that decision.

We as fans knew what the weather was going to be like just as much as the Athletic Department.  We fans can make the choice to stay home instead of complain about the Athletic Department.  I drove 7 hours to Lincoln with my entire family knowing there was a chance the game would be cancelled due to weather.  Maybe I should blame my 5 year old son, he seems like an easy target.

Tell your 5 year old son you want your money back. Tell him to pay up.   Grin

What he said.

Well... we now have a benchmark.  If Lincoln is under a tornado watch, all athletic endeavors should be cancelled.  I wonder if Nebraska will cancel any of their regular season games if a tornado watch is pronounced before and/or during a game.

This "storm of the century" is media hype once again.

Yes, the 96 tornadoes that storm put down in Kansas yesterday were a complete fabrication of the media. Roll Eyes

A glorified practice was canceled due to the weather. Get over yourselves already!

Did you even read my post?  I don't think a single person in the state had a problem with the game being canceled. The way it was handled is a different story.

Did you even read my post, or were you too busy building a strawman? I don't think a single person in the state had a problem with the game being canceled. The way it was handled is a different story.

I don't see a strawman, I do see a consistent tone to your complaints though. Folks, this whining is absolutely ridiculous. Growing up in the midwest should prepare any of us for things being cancelled due to weather. Sorry if the AD didn't see fit to have a plan for a Sunday game even though that would likely not be functional for many of the recruits or fans who had already committed time to being busy on Saturday or had other commitments on Sunday. Schmidt happens. I'm shocked to read all these whiny comments about how this was inconvenient or how this should have been handled this way or that. You don't plan your world around the weather in Nebraska. It can change in a moment, and anyone who grew up there has probably had their fair share of cancelled events because of it. People have lives that go far beyond accommodating a glorified practice. Sure it's a little disappointing, but lose the whining and second guessing. The only way I would second guess any of these decisions is if we had decided to play and had a lightening strike kill or injure dozens of people, or had a tornado closing in on a stampede of people trying to flee a stadium. You follow the plan, hope for the best, and if it doesn't work, you pull the plug to keep people safe and move on.

I have an issue with the way it was handled and the fact that Bo asked his players if they wanted to play sunday and they said no. I have a big problem with that! Where is the leadership? Where is the drive to prove to the coaches you should be the starter? Where is the joy of wanting to play in front of 50,000 in memorial stadium?

I'm not sure where some media folks got that,  but that is the opposite of all the direct quotes we got from the players.  They wanted to play, and if not yesterday then today.  The primary reason they did not play the game today was due to "logistics".  I think it could have been done.  They made it more complicated than it needed to be.

I'll throw in my two cents since I went to the game.  Background - for Xmas I gave my niece and nephews a present for each season and SPRING was an "all expenses paid trip to their first spring game".  They were excited and counted down the days, I bought all kinds of Husker trinkets as prizes to hand out through out the day - driving down etc.

I was really torn because I didn't want to go because I was afraid of the forecast - however I decided it was an opportunity to teach them about the importance of staying for the entire game etc.  Smiley
I have an aunt that lives in Lincoln so I knew we had a place to crash so we decided to spend the night knowing it might be a dangerous ride home.

They had a blast on the way down and when we arrived it was fine.  We hit the bookstore to buy them some gear and for some autographs.  7 yr old pinched Correll Buckhalter's biceps because he couldn't believe them.  Shocked

Headed over to the Pavillion to throw some balls and that's when the storm hit.  We ran for cover to the North Stadium at 11:30 am.  They chowed on food, candy etc. and it was pouring so hard we had a picnic sitting on the concrete.  They were surprisingly fine.

We all know that the sound system in the stadium needs to be replaced.  Well yesterday proved that it isn't just about improving the sound of the music and the play calling.  If there had been an emergency I'd like to know how they could have possibly communicated it to all that were in the concourses.  We couldn't hear a thing.

We found out the game was called not by the Huskervision message by Dr TO but rather from an 8 yr old whose parent got a text message or was online.  Seriously.  We never saw/heard the message (we were in the concourse because they wouldn't allow us on the field due to lightening), none of the concession stands near us were throwing out free food, and most important had we known that some players were signing autographs we would have hung a while and put smiles on their faces.

My point is that it appeared very unorganized (which I understand) and communication was not good - I'm just glad there wasn't an emergency.  I hope this event helps an initiative to fix the sound system problem at the stadium.

I honestly don't understand why it was so disorganized. It's not like he have been having Spring games for 61 years now (with an AD who has been here for over 70% of them).

I can not believe how people can just say it is ok with the way they handled this.  This is supposed to be big-time college football and yesterday we looked like mom and pop in the sticks.   I do mind any game being canceled.  The Athletic department better get there act together or fans will start leaving.  It does not take too many bad events to lose the fan mojo.  Fan have too many choices.
