I like Bill Byrne.  Nobody is faultless, but he did a lot for the N, and he was accessible and responsive to supporters big and small.

But as long as we are playing "What if" how about "what if Tom Osborne hadn't retired until 2007, instead of 1997?"  because Mac Brown may or may not have worked out better than Solich did at Nebraska, but TO would have worked out better than any of them.  It was the biggest mistake of TOs career.  I admire that he kept his promise, but it was a promise he should not have made.  By the time TO was retiring as football coach at the RIGHT time, he could have succeeded Byrne as AD, and picked his successor then.  Solich would have moved on, and either learned lessons he brought back with him, or it would have gone to someone else.

Oh, well.  It was  a grand 40-year run that is not likely to be replicated by anyone anywhere, and I got to see it first hand.  No regrets here.

BIg 8 in survival mode?  talk about revising history.

The officiating in this Conference stinks, but at least it seems to stink consistently and uniformly. ---Solly 11/03/2012
